This year’s PMGC will feature a prize pool of $4 million. Although it is a downgrade from last year’s hefty prize pool of $6 million, it is still a very large amount. Teams will compete in a cutthroat competition to get their share of the winnings.

PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2022 will have increased slots for Chinese teams and a new qualification procedure

In the first edition of PMGC, there were two slots allotted for Chinese teams which increased to 3 last year. This year, it will be increased again to accommodate four Chinese teams in the grand stage of PUBG Mobile Esports.

China has no doubt been the strongest and most prestigious region since the inception of esports in the game. It will send 4 of its best teams in an attempt to defend their title of world champions. This is an honour they’ve held for the last two years back to back.

In the new qualifying format, the winner of the PEL 2022 Summer will get a direct invite into the Grand Finals of PMGC. While the runners-up and third-placed teams will be invited to play in the league stages. For the 18 teams remaining, there will be one slot remaining to fight for.

There will be a regional qualification held in autumn for the same purpose. The best team from there will secure their spot as the last team from China. More details about the qualifiers will be released later on as the year progresses.

Final Thoughts

The Chinese region has always been a dominating force in global tournaments. They have won 6 of the last 8 global stage events and have never been out of the top 2. Therefore, 4 teams from that region will surely spice up the competition more. This will bring forward gameplay filled with entertainment and tight competition.
