PUBG MOBILE, one of the world’s most popular battle royale titles, was banned by the Indian Government on September 2, 2020, as a measure for protecting the national integrity, sovereignty, and security along with the user information of Indian players. Since then, the PUBG Corporation has taken several steps for the removal of the ban in one of PUBG MOBILE’s biggest markets. Finally, PUBG MOBILE is set to return to the country under a new name ‘PUBG Mobile India‘, which has been specially designed and created for the Indian players, according to a Tech Crunch report.
PUBG Mobile’s return to India
PUBG Corporation has announced about this special version of the game for the Indian market, but the release date is still undisclosed. Previously, PUBG Corp. broke its partnership with the Chinese tech giant Tencent, taking the first step to un-ban PUBG Mobile in India.
Recently, the company also penned down a global deal with Microsoft to move all user data of PUBG Mobile to Azure, Microsoft’s cloud platform. This was a sincere step in securing the data of Indian players, which was a major concern of the Govt. while banning these apps.
KRAFTON’s $100M investment project in India
KRAFTON, the parent firm of the PUBG Corp., has announced its plan of making an investment project worth $100M in India. The company wants to cultivate the game locally for esports, entertainment, and IT industries ecosystems. They have also planned India-exclusive esports tournaments and employing over 100 employees for the betterment of the game in the country.
PUBG Mobile’s return to India could pave the path for other Chinese owned games to return to the country as well which were banned priorly by the Indian Govt.
