- Russia has blocked Roblox, claiming the platform hosts extremist content and LGBT propaganda.
- This comes after Iran and Turkey's ban on the platform, as they called it unlawful.
- Russia labeled the International LGBT movement as extremist back in 2023.
Russia has now imposed a ban on the hit game platform, Roblox, after authorities claimed the platform’s services promote extremist content and LGBT propaganda to young players. The decision was confirmed by Roskomnadzor, which also previously banned Discord, as part of their wider limitations on Western platforms.
Russia cites moral concerns and child safety behind the Roblox ban
So, according to Reuters’ report, Roskomnadzor, Russia’s communication regulator, has this time blocked Roblox, accusing it of hosting extremist content along with what it labels as LGBT propaganda, stating such content can “negatively impact the spiritual and moral development of children.”

For context, this platform averages over 151.1 million daily users, and this ban is like a protective measure for Russia, as they continue to restrict any apps or platforms that don’t follow the country’s rules, just as they did to Discord last year, along with a $36,000 fine for allegedly violating Russian law.
Roblox is committed to its safety measures as these bans continue
And after this, Roblox responded through a spokesperson who told Reuters, “We respect the local laws and regulations in the countries where we operate,” while highlighting the platform’s strong focus on safety, with “preventative safety measures designed to catch and prevent harmful content on our platform.“
Now, I’ve spent a lot of time in Roblox myself, playing titles like 99 Nights in the Forest, Hypershot, and even Dress to Impress. But this ban is not a shocker to me, considering the platform has been facing similar issues in countries like Iran and Turkey in recent years. Turkey also banned Discord after Russia.
