Tencent Games secretly files a trademark for Honor of Kings World in India

A strong possibility of coming in India sooner that we expected!

Surprising news has surfaced on the web as we found out that Tencent Games has secretly filed a trademark for Honor of Kings: World in India very recently. It indicates that the company is planning for a release in the country soon. The trademark application was submitted on the 9th of November 2023 and it is clear that Tencent hasn’t received any feedback yet as the current status of the application shows it is under Marked for Exam.

Honor of Kings World is a spin-off based on the Honor of Kings IP, a 5v5 MOBA from developer TiMi Studio Group and published by Tencent Games for iOS and Android. The game was first announced in November 2021, Honor of Kings: World will be an open-world RPG, where you will get the chance to freely explore the beautiful game world while taking the challenge of powerful world bosses and engaging in various adventures.

However, the game may not come anytime soon because a trademark filling in India generally takes around 15-18 months to a mere 6-8 months to complete. If any objections regarding the trademark arise, then it takes 15-18 months. on the other hand, a smooth proceeding without any difficulties may be completed within 8 months.

This includes the entire process, from filling out an application to final approval. And, as per the status of Tencent’s application, it is still a long run to get permission from the Indian Trade Marks Registry (TMR).

But, Indian law seems to be a bit surprising as famous foreign trademarks are eligible to get legal protection as well. Besides, foreign trademarks which do not register in India can also seek trademark rights in India. So, it is possible to conduct a few tests in India before launching the game. Moreover, the test phases can run while the registration process is still going on.

The ancestor, Honor of Kings, of this upcoming AAA title, has a long history of continuous success. The title was released in China in 2015. A successful run took it to release an international adaptation that goes by the name of Arena of Valor. The international adaptation was published by Level Infinite. Honor of Kings became the first mobile game to cross $10 billion in revenue. The huge success of this MOBA turned the tide to make the developer think differently and now coming as an AAA title.

But as the initial proceedings begin, Indian gamers can hope to watch the game making to the country’s market. Though there is no confirmation came in yet, chances are high that the game will be released sooner than we expect.
