The Pokémon Company to shut down TCG Online to fully focus on TCG Live

The classic card trading game is about to get a new replacement!

The Pokémon Company is reportedly set to shut down its services for Pokémon TCG Online to prepare for the TCG Live game which is already in the beta phase. The exact date for the shutdown is not announced but it looks like it will be taken off the stores soon and will be replaced with a better version in the near future that was announced back in September 2021.

Pokémon TCG Online was almost a decade-old classic card battler

The game, Pokémon TCG Online was a virtual adaption of the traditional Pokémon trading game, which saw it rise to popularity with the fans being able to trade their favorite Pokémons in a virtual setup and challenging computer-controlled opponents with preset card decks or face off against other players with their own custom decks online.

Initially released in March 2011 for PC browsers, the game saw support from fans all around the globe which also saw the developers releasing the game on other platforms too, including mobile. However, after this long journey, the game is all but set to shut down its services for now and might come back with a successor to the title, Pokémon TCG live.

The Pokémon TCG Online app will be removed from the App Store, Google Play, and Pokémon.com, and the game’s servers will be shut down permanently. The developers announced the shutdown of the game servers will be done before the new launch of Pokémon TCG Live, the next official title to the series and possibly the replacement. Further, Pokémon TCG Online will no longer receive new Pokémon TCG products, cards, or deck accessories starting March 1, 2023.

Pokémon TCG’s shutdown will ensure more resources for TCG Live

The reason behind the Pokémon TCG shut down is being stated as the fact that it will help contribute more resources for the development of TCG Live as per The Pokémon Company. A shutdown date for Pokémon TCG Online was not given, but additional information about the shutdown will be provided through the official Pokemon Support website.
