War and Order is gearing up for a major Halloween update with new events

Halloween is fast approaching, and that can only mean one thing in the world of mobile games: a ton of seasonal updates and events. War and Order is getting in on the action, with new Halloween events and rewards set to feature for a limited time adding yet another layer of fun to the most densely layered, tactically sophisticated free-to-play mobile strategy game on the market.

Gameplay Overview

Developed by Camel Games, War and Order is a sprawling strategy MMO set in a medieval fantasy world packed with castles, orcs, elves, monsters, and all that jazz. It combines elements from several genres, including tower defense, castle building, and role-playing, and stirs in a number of multiplayer ingredients for good measure.

Not only can you join an alliance, but you can also chat with other players, construct a number of alliance-based buildings, occupy other players’ territory, defend territory en masse, and engage in PvP combat to sharpen your skills against the deadliest prey: other humans.

This multiplayer element is backed by one of the most active communities in the business. Just head online and you’ll find countless Facebook pages, wikis, forums, and subreddits maintained by a supportive army of fellow players. And you’ll need their help. War and Order may belong to one of the most oversubscribed genres on mobile, but it stands head and shoulders above the rest thanks to the sheer depth and ingenuity of its strategy mechanics.

The game puts you in the footsteps of a warlord

Most mobile strategy games are all about numbers. If your army is bigger and stronger, you’re going to win. In War and Order, by contrast, your tactics can make all the difference. You can change formations on the fly, bring allies into the fray, and so on. The more you play, the better you get.

It also looks absolutely fantastic, with a cleverly designed user interface that lets you view complex battles in real-time and in intricate, highly polished detail. The game’s 22 orchestral scores are a perfect accompaniment to this visual splendor. But what does the gameplay actually involve? Let’s take a look.

War and Order cast you as a lord and tasks you with developing your settlement into the center of a sprawling territory. To achieve this you’ll need to gather resources, upgrade your buildings, and, of course, fight. A lot. That means you’ll need to recruit troops and train your army, which is divided into four different unit classes: Infantry, Cavalry, Archers, and Mages. These classes all have their own skills and abilities, and they also come in two different races: humans and elves.

This ingenious twist radically shakes up the upgrade process, forcing you to think carefully about when to recruit troops so as to maximize your effectiveness against a particular enemy. And that’s before you’ve even considered the choice of weapons, items, and combinations at your disposal. As you’d expect, the standard of your units improves as you level them up, and also as you grow your army. Once you hit 500 troops, you start to gain Titan Crystals, and the higher your level the more you earn.

Upgrading will be an important aspect of your gameplay

On top of leveling up your troops, you’ll need to upgrade your training ground, equipment, and so on. Your settlement is a hive of activity, consisting of a Beast Den, a College, Drill Grounds, a Hospital, and a whole array of alliance structures too. Crucially, there’s also a Blacksmith, where you can forge new equipment using the materials you acquire through killing monsters and opening chests.

The other big upgrade priority is your own character: the lord. These upgrades, which you apply with skill points, fall into two categories: War and Development. War upgrades improve your fighting power and defenses, while Development upgrades allow you to reduce your upgrade times, harvest more efficiently, and so on. You can reset the skill points you’ve assigned at any time if you don’t like how your settlement is panning out.

The Halloween update is bringing a plethora of events in War and Order

At this point, we’ve only just scratched the surface. War and Order is a huge, visually impressive strategy game that towers above most of its rivals on mobile in terms of depth, complexity, and presentation. And things are kicking off in the world of War and Order. Halloween is coming, and the game has a few treats in store, with valuable rewards on offer and a number of events to enjoy, including Halloween Fright Night, Trick or Treat, and others. If nothing else, it’ll be a great chance to line your coffers in preparation for the wars ahead.
