The rise of mobile gaming
Just recently YouTube released its annual list of the 10 most-watched video games. And even though not all of them are mobile games, many of you might actually be surprised about their multitude on the ladder. In fact, many of the most-watched mobile games 2019 can be played on several devices, some even cross-platform. It only makes sense that we’ll find multiplayer online games dominating the charts. Who doesn’t like to compete with others rather than just fighting RNG, who wouldn’t want to team up with friends or make new contacts?
In fact, mobile games have already surpassed both console and PC games by a large margin when it comes to revenue. By 2022, mobile games are expected to reach 2.358 billion active players. No wonder that they also take over YouTube.
10. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang
With its first World Championship held just a month ago, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang already claimed the spot as the most popular mobile MOBA. Lots of entertaining events, exciting game modes and unique Heroes make this game a yet uncontested experience for MOBA players on Android and iOS.
9. Brawl Stars
The real-time strategy game from Clash of Clans’ maker’s Supercell enjoys a large player base. Brawl Stars is another mobile game, MMO rather than MOBA, that made it to YouTube’s Top 10. It’s all about fast-paced gaming with friends and fun – and people love watching just as much as playing.
8. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
PUBG remains one of the most popular shooters, now already starting in Season 5. Despite being one of the younger contenders with its release in 2017, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds went big both in terms of streaming and e-sports.
7. League of Legends
One of the most popular games of all time, MOBA pioneer League of Legends keeps its player base just as engaged as its audience. Despite being way more dominant on Twitch, LoL still finds lots of spectators on YouTube. While still only available for PC, Riot already announced a mobile version yet to follow in 2020.
6. PUBG Mobile
Yes, we already talked about PUBG. However, PUBG Mobile is one of the rare cases where different platforms feature independent games. Therefore it’s considered a separate game and – guess what – it even surpasses its older brother on PC.
With its initial release as early as 2006, Roblox is the oldie of YouTube’s top 10. Nonetheless, the concept remains timeless across pretty much all platforms. Create your own universe, play with your friends and become whatever you’d like to be whenever you want.
4. Garena Free Fire
Garena Free Fire, also known as Free Fire (Battlegrounds), is yet another game that made it to the most-watched mobile games on YouTube for 2019. The classic Battle Royale game developed by 111dots Studio even won the Best Popular Voted Game category of Google’s Best Apps of the Year 2018.
3. Grand Theft Auto V
One of the few games only available for consoles and PC, Grand Theft Auto V still persuades its audience with a captivating storyline, an exciting open world to explore and lots of action. Until today it holds a place among the 3 best-selling video games of all time.
Fortnite is another big hit that offers lots of game modes across several platforms. Featuring a Battle Royale, Survival and Sandbox mode, Fortnite provides players a unique gaming experience which remains unrivalled. Since all modes use the same gameplay and engine, the game overall becomes really intuitive. No matter what you’re looking for, Fortnite provides everything you could wish for. At least that’s what 60.9 billion views indicate!
We already talked about best-selling video games. Well, here is your #1 contender. Celebrating its 10th anniversary just like League of Legends, Minecraft reaches its player base and audience across all platforms, even providing controller support. Interestingly it’s one of the few games that aren’t free to play. Then again, taking into consideration everything the game offers with an infinite world that can be explored build into everything your heart desires, a few bucks are more than worth the investment. With 40 million more views than Fortnite, Minecraft emerges at the clear winner of YouTube’s most-watched video games 2019.
