Krafton introduced Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) in July 2021 after the ban of PUBG Mobile in India. In no time it became the favorite mobile game in India and it still is. But in recent times, the craze and hype of BGMI have seen a steady decline. Old players are leaving the game. There are no new things to explore in the game, and many more reasons are there. In this article, we are going to examine the factors that are leading Battlegrounds Mobile India to downfall.
Why the popularity of BGMI is on a decline
With time, every game’s craze decreases. But it was quite exceptional for the Battlegrounds Mobile India. Due to a deep emotional connection with its players, BGMI was always on trend. In recent times, due to multiple reasons, the craze of BGMI is slowly decreasing. In this section, we will try to state the factors which are affecting BGMI’s legacy.
1. Poor handling by Krafton
We will have to understand that the body that is controlling BGMI is Krafton, which is not the only developer for the original PUBG Mobile game. Due to this, the game is not being maintained well compared to the global version, PUBG Mobile. The updates come very late, and many global features are not available, like the 120 FPS support and multi-region matchmaking.
The game has many inconsistencies which are still not fixed. The game stutters a lot. Even the streamers and the content creators are frustrated about it as seen in this video of Regaltos and MortaL. With Krafton’s focus on collaborations with brands and creating hype with content creators, this may not be what the common gamers want.
2. Game optimization is not up to the mark
After its inception in 2021, it got another suspension in 2022. Even after all of these, the game is not optimized at all. It has several issues like desync, where a player gets shot even if they are behind a cover. Another big issue is the server problem as seen in the comments section of this official BGMI update podcast.
A lot of time BGMI gets stuck at 73% loading screen while entering a match, the server gets frozen, the ping fluctuates in the middle of a fight, and whatnot! These things happen even in a custom room. The Mechafusion mode was also disliked by most of the players due to its boring gameplay as seen in the comment section of this official Instagram post or even this one.
3. Unable to hold the old audience
BGMI, formerly known as PUBG Mobile was at its peak during the Covid-19 period, when it saw a massive rise in its user base. But from then, BGMI was not able to hold that audience in the long term. One of the biggest reasons for this is the ban on PUBG Mobile.
Due to this ban, the game lost its major chunk of users. Although it was recovered after the release of BGMI the damage was already done. Also, the old players have moved on in their lives, and most of them do not play the game right now. It is one of the biggest reasons for the decline of BGMI.
4. Bugs and glitches are spoiling the fun
The rise of bugs and glitches in BGMI is quite visible. Imagine you are driving a car in the game and suddenly the car goes underground and you get finished. This is exactly what happening in the game right now.
Even in a flagship tournament like Battlegrounds Mobile India Series with a prize pool of 2 Cr. INR, the game is facing multiple server issues. We witnessed multiple matches being rehosted due to these server issues and glitches. The game gets lagged in the final circles while taking fights. This is one of the reasons why BGMI is declining right now.
The glitches are becoming so common that content creators are now making top glitches videos instead of guide videos.
5. Hackers and Cheaters are constantly coming back
The story of hackers and cheaters in BGMI is evergreen. In every 10 games, you will face a cheater in classic matches. Even in the official tournaments, we have seen that teams are getting banned due to cheating.
Nowadays, a cheater freezes an entire lobby while they are on the airplane and gets all the free kills at the end of the plane path. Well known BGMI creators like LolLzZz Gaming showed the same in a video. It is quite frustrating to see that Krafton is not doing anything actively about this. Their only concern is bringing new skins and outfits for pay-to-win players. It is very disappointing to see this state of our beloved game. These all are leading BGMI to decline.
6. Not much to do for Free to Play players
Every week, we see a new crate or lucky spin in the game which can only be opened with UC by spending real money. There are very little amount of things for the free-to-play players. The odds of getting good items from the crates are also very very low. We mostly get time-limited items by spending free crate coupons. These odds are very good in the global PUBG Mobile version. Nowadays, Krafton is only thinking about income generation from this game.
Final thoughts
If things continue like this, it will take only 2 to 3 years to kill the game. Even many content creators and streamers are saying the same. This popular video and the comments section show how frustrated the gamers are. The publishers should understand that players who are still playing this game are continuing because they have friends in the game.
They are playing it because it connects deeply with the players. After all, it has memories to cherish. Krafton should also realize that materialistic improvements and other gimmicks can only boost the game for the short term. To survive for another 5-7 years, they will have to improve the core basics of the game too. Because, if they do not do the said things, a new contender will come and it will only be a matter of time for the complete downfall of Battlegrounds Mobile India.
