Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) 2021: Schedule, prize pool, and more

A possible comeback of the Indian Esports with a greater vigour

In the most recent post by Battlegrounds Mobile India on their socials, the first competitive tournament Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2021 or BGMIS 2021 has been confirmed following the conclusion of the Launch Party. Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2021 is the new name for PMIS or the PUBG Mobile India Series prior to the nationwide ban of the popular game in India. The registrations for the tournament has opened on July 19th, 2021 with a prize pool of ₹1,00,00,000 ($134k) and finally the complete schedule is announced.

This tournament is the first competitive BGMI tournament that will kick off the esports scene for the game, which had been put on hiatus since the ban of PUBG Mobile, resulting in uncertainty for the existing esports teams and rosters. Thus, this announcement comes at a very crucial moment for all the teams and players looking forward to getting back in action and jump-start their ventures again.

BGMI Series or BGIS 2021 complete schedule

BGIS 2021 will happen in 5 stages. Please find the complete schedule given below.

Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGMIS) 2021 prize pool

BGMI Series 2021 will have a total prize pool of ₹1,00,00,000 ($134k). However, the place-wise distributions are still unknown at the time of writing this post.

Also, it remains to be seen how teams are invited or qualified, as many of the biggest names in the BGMI esports scenes are now disbanded or without an organization, such as the ex-TSM Entity roster and the disbanded GodLike roster or the now nonexistent Fnatic roster. Thus, if the final announcement is made before the rosters are finalized, we may see the tournament happen without those teams from the old iterations of the tournament.

Final Thoughts

Right now, it is not advisable to come to any premature conclusions, as the tournament details and criteria haven’t been specified or announced yet. We have to keep in mind that the game has made its footfall in the country after months of hype and tussles with the Indian government over concerns of privacy issues, security, and national integrity.

Thus, the organizers will do everything in their power to make the tournament well organized and lustrous to give the needed jump start to the BGMI esports scene in the country and make it worth for the audience. For now, we can only cross our fingers and hope for the best to occur.
