Honor of Kings comes up with an exciting announcement for esports fans around the world. The competitive scenario is getting a major revamp in both the prize pool and event format in 2024. Honor of Kings Esports is going to change its diverse course and plan to culminate the existing events into properly formed year-final tournaments in 2024. From this year, the global competitions will see invitational events, a new KPL format, a changed qualification process for the International Championships, and many more. Besides, the prize pool is also going to fly high.
Honor of Kings is a 5v5 MOBA title and it is one of the most popular games in China. The title was developed by TiMi Studios Group and published by Tencent Games. The game came out in 2015 and the global adaptation was out in 2020.
Honor of Kings will invest a massive $15M in global esports in 2024
The title has promised to invest a whopping $15 million for the global events that will take place throughout 2024. There will be Invitational events like the other esports titles where big fishes will be invited to showcase their power in MOBA action. The invitational events will be followed by a series of events. A total of 4 events will take place.
Series | Schedule |
---|---|
Invitational Season 1 | March 2024, Istanbul |
Invitational Season 2 | June 2024 |
Mid-season Invitational | August 2024, Riyadh |
Invitational Championship | October 2024 |
The mid-season event will host 12 teams across the regions of Honor of Kings. This will be featured at the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Before, the first two invitationals will take place in Istanbul and Kuala Lumpur.
Moreover, there will be 14 Sopen Series Split 2 qualifiers throughout the SEA, Pacific, EMEA, and Americas. This will choose teams for the Invitational Championship in October. Another event was announced during the Invitational Season 2, the SEA Championship. This will take place in December.

So, there could be a separate event for the root teams. But again, looking at the prize pool that the title generally features in a tournament, this separate event might not take place. The details will be disclosed at a later date by the title itself. However, the qualifier event for the championship will have at least 1 Turkey team that will qualify directly.
King Pro League (KPL) may form 1 “Dream Team” to fight in the Invitational Championship
The road to reach Honor of Kings’ highest event is broken into several pathways. Teams from the King Pro League (KPL) event are from China and generally climb to the Challenger Cup and several teams from KPL are sent to the KIC event. This is going to change. Arena of Valor International Championship features teams from the Garena Region like the Garena Challenger Series (GCS), Arena of Glory (AOG) from Vietnam, Honor of Kings Brazil Championship, and RoV Pro League Thailand.

On the other hand, Chinese teams and these global teams fight in the Honor of Kings International Championship. The KPL has a big influence here as almost 7-8 teams are from that league, meaning that most of the KIC teams are from China. However, this may not happen in 2024 as the title is planning to form one “Dream Team” from the KPL and send it to fight in the KIC 2024 against the globally qualified teams.
Final Thoughts
If the game takes the format that is teased, then the competition will rise both in China and the global regions. So far, KPL teams or the Chinese teams used to destroy the global ones and put a one-sided domination in the International Championship. But now, if only a team comes from the Chinese mainland then the global teams will be able to prepare strategies more efficiently so that they can fight with the Chinese teams.

We may see the global teams dominating the whole of Honor of Kings esports in a few years! However, we have to wait for more details regarding the events to arrive in 2024. Overall., the investment along with the new structured format will increase the competition and global followers will be encouraged to see this. With an expected release on the 20th of June 2024, the hype is increasing day by day.
