Garena announced that the Free Fire World Series 2022 would not feature teams such as India or countries from the CIS region. The announcement is undoubtedly going to come as a blow to fans of the nations who were hoping to see their countries duke it out on one of the biggest stages for Free Fire.
Usually, the top two teams from India and the CIS region of countries qualify for the world series through their regional competitions. These two include the Free Fire India Championship Spring and the Free Fire Pro League Season 4. Unfortunately, neither of these tournaments look set to go ahead as scheduled, meaning that the teams will miss the Free Fire world series cut.
Garena announced expulsion of the two regions from Free Fire World Series
Initially, the regional competition winner would earn a direct ticket to the world series, while the runner-up would qualify for the play-ins. Garena has announced no intention of giving India’s or the CIS region’s spot to any other team.
Rather than it has reduced the number of teams competing in the play-ins from 12 to 10. However, the number of advancing teams in the play-ins has been increased to 4 from the usual 2. So teams from other regions would certainly be looking forward to taking full advantage of the situation.
The Free Fire India Championship was put on hold after the game joined a new list of apps banned by the Indian Government earlier in February this year. The Free Fire Pro League Season 4 was also put on hold following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The play-ins for the Free Fire World Series are expected to run as scheduled from May 14 to May 21. Despite the absence of the Indian and CIS teams, stakes for the competition are expected to be huge, with a whopping 2 million dollar prize pool up for grabs.
