Clash of Clans Beginners Guide and Tips

Clash on!

Clash of Clans is a mobile strategy game for Android and iOS that has been grossing on the charts since 2012. The developers behind the fantasy-themed world Supercell have kept players engrossed with regular updates that encourage players to pick up the game even after a long break. In the game, players will be able to play with their friends, raid villages, build lasting friendships, and much more. Here in this beginners guide, we will offer help to get you started on Clash of Clans and then make your way further into the game.

Clash of Clans Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks

Clash of Clans is a free-to-play game, but there are some ways where you can spend money to get ahead quicker. However, the only thing that might just be worth it is the Gold Pass every month. In this guide, we’ll focus more on how to farm resources rather than buying them with real money. Here are some tips that can help a beginner at Clash of Clans.

1. Save your Gems

When you’re starting out, or even in mid-level stages, you might be tempted to dish out some gems to get an upgrade done quickly. This is a pretty bad idea because you could be doing so much more with those gems, like boosting your troop training speed when you have some time to kill. Make sure you have the maximum number of builders available, which is 5 or 6 depending on your Builder Village level, before spending any gems on anything else.

If you want to get more gems, you should check out the achievements on your profile. They grant a large number of gems often for something simple, such as donating to your clanmates regularly. You should also harvest the obstacles that you get in your base to get a slow but steady supply of free gems.

2. Farming Resources are the Key

To get a lot of resources in a short amount of time, you should prepare your army accordingly. Instead of looking at the number of trophies during matchmaking, you should focus on the loot available in the enemy base.

Sometimes, the enemy will have exposed pumps, drills, and mines which have a lot of gold and elixir in them. You will be able to tell the difference between them being empty to bursting at the seams with resources.

3. Prioritise between Trophy Pushing and Farming carefully

Trophy pushing is about increasing the number of trophies you have to climb leagues, while for farming you are focusing on increasing your resources and leveling your base up the quickest you can. Both are viable methods of playing Clash of Clans, but farming is the way to ensure that your base is solid. You can always trophy-push later.

However, if you are intent on climbing the leagues, you will need to invest a lot more time in the game. The league bonuses will usually take care of your need for resources, but you will also need to account for other players attacking you and taking away your trophies.

4. Utilise the Practice Mode

The Practice Mode has been added in an update a few years ago, and players can use it to try out and discover new army compositions for attacks. You will eventually realize that you need to use tanks in your army which will soak up the damage from the enemy defenses while your other troops attack them.

For TH7 and below, Archers and Barbarians are great for farming exposed resources outside walls. If you want to get deeper into the base into the storages, you can incorporate Giants and a couple of Wallbreakers to break walls. In addition to honing your skills, you will also be able to get a fair amount of resources from this mode.

5. Prioritise the Upgrade order for your Buildings

Ideally, you should be maxing out every building before upgrading your town hall. Your first priority should be your offensive structures, which are the Clan Castle for troops and the laboratory for upgrades. You can follow up with the army camps to increase the capacity of your army, followed by the strongest defenses.

Pumps and Mines don’t take a lot of resources to upgrade, so you can work them in whenever you have a free builder. When you have your first hero, the Barbarian King, make sure to upgrade him to the max. For this, you will need to get your Dark Elixir Drill and Storage to a considerable level as well.

6. Always keep the Laboratory busy

You might have a lot of builders but only have a laboratory. Upgrading your troops is essential if you want to keep up with your Town Hall Level. Whenever you have a Town Hall upgrade, make sure that the Laboratory is almost done as well. You can set an upgrade to go in the lab, and immediately upgrade the lab itself to the next level to save some time.

7. Walls are actually worth it

Walls might seem really, really expensive once you get to the higher levels, but it’s necessary for a good defense. A base that has weak walls leaves its structures exposed. The center of your base can be easily reached with low-level troops, so to ensure that it doesn’t happen you should max them out.

The great thing about walls is that they don’t need any building time at all. You can keep a builder empty and unload all of your unused resources on walls at the end of the day before signing out. This is a great way to ensure that not a lot of resources are available to enemies, so they won’t be able to steal them from you. So get started, and don’t hesitate to give it a try, and never forget to refer to this Clash of Clans beginners guide for advice if you run into problems.
