Icons have been in-game for the past three months now. The former superstars who have made their mark in the history of football are now finally obtainable in the form of SBCs. With the twelve new icons released over each month, grab your idols in all-new FIFA Mobile 20 Icons SBC.
As promised, EA brings us a new batch of 12 Icon Cards with the icons refresh. Here are the reviews for all the icons of this week in FIFA Mobile 20. We have carefully reviewed and analyzed their playstyles to assist you in figuring out how we can get the best out of them in-game.
Note: In each icons review of FIFA Mobile 20, there is an estimation of the price, do not use this as an accurate representation. It is only an educated estimate, where the cost of the SBCs is calculated in terms of each SBC costing 1 million coins. The costs for training the players have been taken from the FifaRenderz website.
Sol Campbell (CB)
- Skill boost: Marking
- Traits: Power header
- Requirements: 100 Icon Points, 12 history points
- Recommended Overall: 94+
Cost: Getting this card will already cost you about 1-2 million through SBC completion, then there is the hassle of training to recommended overall, which will cost you a total of 2,656,304 TXP and 4,375,333 coins. The total cost of this icon will be around 5-8 million coins.
Campbell is one of the physical icons in FIFA Mobile 20. The Arsenal legend shares the similar Marking skill boost with Easter David Luiz. He is definitely your option if you are looking for an Arsenal squad and partnering him with Luiz in your defense. Despite being a low rated icon, Campbell has the Power Header trait and his Marking boost makes him a definite choice in your defense, should you decide to upgrade him at a higher overall. His major downside is his overall which would require a high XP and coin value while upgrading him.
If money isn’t a problem, we would recommend, Campbell is best played in the center due to its high heading attributes. He is also quite effective in defense because of his high marking stats.
We would certainly recommend having Campbell if at a higher rating. It is best to play him on either side in a three-man defense if possible, where he could act as a last stand if your opponent outruns your wing backs since he has a decent amount of pace and strength.
Juan Sebastián Verón (CM)
- Skill boost: Box-to-Box
- Traits: Avoids weaker foot, Long passer, Long-shot taker, Playmaker
- Requirements: 150 Icon Points and 14 honor points
- Recommended Overall: 92+
Cost: You will need to complete 2-3 major SBCs which would cost you between 2-3 million coins, then, to train him up to recommended overall would cost 1,414,028 TXP and 2,481,983 coins, the total cost for this card would be 4-6 million coins
The Argentine legend Veron has an average Icons card in FIFA Mobile 20. Although having a good skill boost Box to Box, Veron requires a high upgrade cost due to his low OVR. A decent all-round player for H2H, there are better alternatives for him such as Icon Vieira, outperforms him in every aspect.
The high shooting stats makes Veron very effective in VSA, and the decent agility and passing stats make it a reliable CM for attacking, the defending stats are quite low however and so you shouldn’t play this card in positions where they defend more often.
The card has the potential to be a great box-to-box midfielder and so the obvious position to play it would be there. Other positions to play Veron would be as a deep-lying playmaker since it can hold the ball and then distribute it well, or it could be played as a primarily offensive CM since it has some good shooting stats, however, his pace would slow your game down by quite a bit. Overall, it is a useful card for H2H.
Gianluca Zambrotta (LB)
- Skill boost: Defending
- Traits: Dives into tackles
- Requirements: 200 Icon Points and 16 career points
- Recommended Overall: 92+
Cost: You will need to complete 2-4 major SBCs in total which would cost you between 2-4 million coins, then, to train him up to recommended overall would cost 416,526 TXP and 939,676 coins, the total cost for this card would be between 3-6 million coins
The former Juve and Barca man Zambrotta has a decent Icons card in FIFA Mobile 20. When upgraded to at least 93-94, he performs amazingly well. His major downside is his low OVR as with the upgrade cost, one can easily afford the fast-paced 94 rated Bundesliga Rivals Davies or 95 rated TOTSSF Robertson. With promising stats, Zambrotta has all the potential to be an excellent card. We recommend you to use him if you require a quick fix to your team chemistry.
Zambrotta has some good defensive stats which means it will be able to handle itself against your opponent’s wingers. However, due to his high attacking work rate, he should appear more in your attacking chances, but the card’s low shooting might let you down. So, make sure to get the ball out of his possession if he appears, a cross would be the best way to do that.
Zambrotta has almost the perfect structure of stats for an LB, the card’s pace will mean it will be able to keep up with your opponent’s fast wingers and it will be able to quickly push forward if necessary. The card also has good crossing stats and so if your strategy is to repeatedly throw crosses into the box, Zambrotta will fit right in. The only problem is the height, although it isn’t too low and he makes up for it with his superior jumping.
Michael Owen (ST)
- Skill boost: Acceleration
- Traits: Tries to beat offside trap, Finesse shot, Speed dribbler
- Requirements: 250 Icon Points and 18 legacy points
- Recommended Overall: 96+
Cost: You will need to complete 2-5 major SBCs in total which would cost you between 2-5 million coins, then, to train him up to recommended overall would cost 3,961,920 TXP and 5,809,962 coins, the total cost for this card would be between 7-12 million coins
Michael Owen sadly never got a decent Icons Card for the past two years. This year in FIFA Mobile 20, Owen’s Icons card although he makes up with his shooting and pace, he is just too short. With the game preferring tall strikers, he is useless when it comes to facing taller and well-built center-backs. Unless you are an OG Liverpool fan, there isn’t a reason you would decide to claim him, there are much better alternatives in the market.
Owen is a fast and accurate striker which should score some of your chances. Still, we would not recommend him for VSA at all, as he is too short and weak, therefore he will not stand a chance against strong defenders. Also, he will not be able to push through your opponent’s defense because he is simply not strong enough. Sadly this card is just not made for VSA.
In contrast to VSA, Owen may perform at a relatively good standard in H2H due to his pace. He will not fit into your team if you like to throw crosses into the box, but he could be a good ball-carrier, due to his good pace and dribbling. We would suggest using him as a partner to another tall, strong striker so they can complement each other’s stats.
Patrick Vieira (CM)
- Skill boost: Long Passing
- Traits: Power Header
- Requirements: 300 Icon Points and 20 history points
- Recommended Overall: 90+
Cost: You will need to complete a total of 2-6 major SBCs which would cost you between 2-6 million coins, then, to train him up to recommended overall would cost 156,531 TXP and 353,343 coins, the total cost for this card would be between 3-6 million coins
One of the stalwarts of the Arsenal’s invincible season, Patrick Vieira is a complete central midfielder who has high defensive work rates, good long passing and marking stats, and an astounding height. His incredible stats and Power Header trait make him a beast. Being very good at interceptions, you may also consider using him as your additional CDM in your H2H squads.
This is an all-round card with good stats for everything and so you could rely on it to do anything. It can handle defense and score chances so we would recommend playing him as close to the center of the field as possible where he can contribute to both attacking and defending chances.
You could use this card in almost any position, for example, you could have it as a deep-lying playmaker, or as a box-to-box midfielder, according to the skill boost, the best position would really be where you can send long passes more often. This works best with 2 fast wingers since you can send lobbed through passes over your opponent’s defense and they will be very effective here. Vieira is perhaps the best card you can use in his position given the price range.
Didier Drogba (ST)
- Skill boost: Target man
- Traits: Flair, Long-shot taker, Power header
- Requirements: 300 Icon Points and 28 championship points
- Recommended Overall: 93+
Cost: You will need to complete 3-6 major SBCs in total which would cost you between 3-6 million coins, then, to train him up to recommended overall would cost 416,168 TXP and 608,160 coins, the total cost for this card would be between 7-8 million coins.
The Chelsea Legend Drogba already had a beastly Prime Icons Card in FIFA Mobile 20, and the base version doesn’t disappoint either. With super strong built and heading stats he is bound to score you from corners. He possesses amazing shooting stats and as a target man, when paired with fast wingers, he is your ultimate package for H2H.
He has a good heading and shot accuracy so he will score most of your chances. He also quite strong as well and so he will be able to fight off strong defenders. But his pace makes him ineffective often. Overall, if you have fast-paced wingers to compliment him then this is a decent card for VSA.
The best possible way to use Drogba is as a target man (obviously) and he works really well in this position. He is quite slow and so you probably shouldn’t try to dribble around as you will most likely lose the ball. In a two striker formation, partnering with TOTSSF Vardy or Easter Rebic often brings the best out of him.
Due to his unfavourable skill boost, training and upgrading him will always remain an issue. The number of positions you could play this card in H2H is very limited, but one position does work really well. Overall Drogba is suited for your H2H team only if you decide to use his skill boost and compromise speed with long shots.
- Skill boost: Long shots
- Traits: Flair, Long shot, Power header
- Requirements: 500 Icon Points and 30 honor points
- Recommended Overall: 93+
Cost: You will need to complete between 3-10 major SBCs in total which would cost you between 3-10 million coins, then, to train him up to recommended overall would cost 1,012,708 TXP and 1,482,824 coins, the total cost for this card would be between 5-12 million coins.
Socrates or Doctor Socrates as he was known is one of the few Icons in FIFA Mobile 20 whose in-game performance and gameplay really outshines their stats. He possesses amazing shot power and his power header trait makes him one of the best CAMs in-game.
Socrates’ shooting stats are great and they will only get better with the skill boost. Although he has good agility and pace, he lacks the physical prowess and so you shouldn’t expect him to dribble through your opponent’s defense. The best way to use this card for VSA would be to shoot wherever possible with the help of his shot power.
With low pace stats, you will not find this card very useful, you could play the card as a long shot taker, but it will be difficult to find a position where it is safe to shoot, especially if your opponent has a strong defense. Overall, Socrates might not prove to be a useful card for H2H unless you rely solely on his shot power and headers.
Emilio Butragueño (ST)
- Skill boost: Finishing
- Traits: Tries to beat offside trap, Finesse shot
- Requirements: 600 Icon Points and 32 legacy points
- Recommended Overall: 92+
Cost: You will need to complete 4-12 major SBCs in total which would cost you between 4-12 million coins, the card will not need any training
After getting an amazing Hugo Sanchez Icons card in the last refresh, it was expected that Butragueno will be equally impressive, but he fails to live up to our expectations. With his short height and medium attacking work rate, he simply doesn’t stand tall in his price bracket.
Butragueno has good shooting and agility so you should be able to slip past most defenders, you should probably stay away from the big and strong ones, this card is just too weak to go up against them. With Butragueno, we recommend dribbling to the sides of the box and then curl a finesse shot, as that might be the best way to use him.
With good shooting and agility, this card performs average in H2H, with the major problems being his pace and height. Obviously, you wouldn’t use this card as a target man, but on corners, your choices will be limited on who to cross to. It may be a good idea to have another tall striker partnered with him. if you are looking to get him. His short height and lack of heading traits can get a real issue if you are looking him to get towards the end of your crosses.
Luís Figo (RM)
- Skill boost: Long shots
- Traits: Flair, Outside foot shot
- Requirements: 700 Icon Points and 34 career points
- Recommended Overall:93+
Cost: You will need to complete a total of 4-14 major SBCs in total which would cost you between 4-14 million coins, this card will not need any extra training
Luis Figo previously had a Prime Icons card released in-game which is the best RW card by far. His base version really disappoints. Despite being an RM, he lacks the pace to run down the wings and there are much better alternatives given his price. For instance, POTM Gnabry outperforms him greatly in almost every aspect. Unless you are a fan of the man himself, he isn’t the best choice for your team.
Figo has great shooting and agility, the shooting will get better with the skill boost. You can do a finesse shot from the edge of the box or use the outside foot shot, and should work pretty well. The problem as discussed earlier is his low physical and pace, it will be hard for you to fight off big center-backs, and neither you can run pass them off easily. You shouldn’t consider him for VSA unless you really want him.
His pace stats are average at best, but they need to be much higher for H2H, it will be hard for you to bring the ball upfield with this card. If you play a 3-4-3 formation, you could have a fast RW in front of Figo, they will complement each other well. But still, with better alternatives and EA not giving Figo the proper card he deserved, he isn’t someone you will find relying on too much.
Roberto Baggio (CF)
- Skill boost: Second Striker
- Traits: Finesse shot, Playmaker
- Requirements: 800 Icon Points and 36 championship points
- Recommended Overall: 94+
Cost: You will need to complete 4-16 major SBCs in total which would cost you between 4-16 million coins, this card will not need any more training
Baggio or The Divine Ponytail possess amazing stats, the best skill boost, and finesse shots as his special trait. He even can perform the rainbow with ease. His only and major downside is his position, as CF is not a popular position in FIFA Mobile.
Great shooting and agility, and so he will score most of your chances. With the finesse shot trait, you should be able to hit accurate finesse shots and this card also has rainbow as secondary skill move. This is very effective against short defenders, but you will be automatically giving the ball away if you attempt it on a taller defender.
Since this card plays as CF, formations, where you can play him in position, are very limited, the skill boost would be good for you to play it as a second striker, your main striker should be a tall and strong striker that can hold the ball well, this means that you would have to sacrifice your wingers. You could also play this card as a False 9, this would not be a bad option and you will get both of your wingers, but you will miss out on having a good orthodox striker.
Lev Yashin (GK)
- Skill boost: Number 1
- Traits: Puncher
- Requirements: 900 Icon Points and 38 history points
- Recommended Overall: 95+
Cost: You will need to complete a total of 4-18 major SBCs in total which would cost you between 4-18 million coins. This card will not need extra training
The Black Spider, Yashin is regarded by many as the best goalkeeper of all time. With EA fixing the issue with heights, his real-life stats, and performances incorporate fully in-game. Having the Number 1 Skill Boost, he is now one of the most trustworthy guys to have inside your sticks. If you missed out on Golden Week Casillas, you can blindly go for Yashin to solve all your goalkeeping issues, once and for all.
After the recent height nerf, Yashin may be one of the best goalkeepers in the game, although very hard to obtain. He has very good reflexes combined with high positioning stats so it is very hard to score against this card. The puncher trait will help a lot, especially in corners. Overall, a very good GK, if you build a strong defense in front of him and you will have an almost impenetrable defensive side in VSA.
Yashin’s high positioning and reflexes will allow it to stop most shots from all angles. The puncher trait will help in corners, or if your opponent spams cross. Low kicking stats means that you won’t be able to start quick counters from your goalkeeper, personally, we feel like this is a downside to this otherwise flawless GK.
Johan Cruyff (CAM)
- Skill boost: Counter
- Traits: Flair, Playmaker, Outside foot shot
- Requirements: 1100 Icon Points and 44 honor points
- Recommended Overall: 97+
Cost: You will need to complete 4-22 major SBCs and 2 minor SBCs in total which would cost you between 6-22 million coins. This card will not need any extra training.
One of the best football personalities ever, Johan Cruyff was expected to have one of the best Icons cards in FIFA Mobile 20. He possesses great attacking stats, the counter skill boost to compliment him with Zidane, and even high work rates. But he falls heavily on his low shot power. People will still hail Top Transfer Bruno as the best CAM in VSA and Cruyff doesn’t come close in that aspect.
Cruyff is another card with great attacking stats but it is simply too weak to have a chance against a strong defender. Also, the card has low shot power stats, long shots will easily be saved by any half-decent GK, this is an average card in VSA that is not worth the huge effort it requires.
Not too bad, not the best either, he is fast and agile, but weak. The best place to use Cruyff would be as a playmaker, or as sort of a rotating point for a counter-attack. We personally recommend using this card if it was cheaper since it is great at the process of receiving, rotating, and then distributing the ball to wingers or strikers. This is an all-round card but you would expect it to be much better, specially for such a price.
