FIFA Mobile 22: Reviewing the Ligue 1 TOTS Players

Choose only from the best players!

Team of the Season is finally here in FIFA Mobile 22. One of the most popular events in the FIFA Mobile calendar recognizes the best performers from each league season. This year, we have an event packed with challenges, rewards, and of course, brand new cards. With so much choice available, picking the best option takes a bit of thinking. We’re here with the TOTS Player reviews, where we look at each of the FIFA Mobile 22 TOTS starters from the major leagues, with this time being Ligue 1, analyzing their playstyles, and detailing their pros and cons.

The fifth league of the FIFA Mobile 22 TOTS event is the Ligue 1. A selection of players was selected from the top flight of French football, and with a community vote, a squad was chosen. This could be the most diverse set of TOTS players we have had so far. League winners PSG only took 4 out of 11 slots whilst the other 7 slots were distributed amongst 5 teams. AS Monaco and Stade Rennais had 2 each whilst Olympique Marseilles, RC Lens and FC Nantes each had 1.

All those calculations. All that time. All that effort. It all comes down to this. Choose wisely!

FIFA Mobile 22 Ligue 1 TOTS Players

Aurelien Tchouameni (CDM)

FIFARenderZ Aurelien Tchouameni
  • Overall: 94
  • Requirement: 28000 TOTS Community Points
  • Skill Boost: Long Passing

Overview

Tchouameni made 50 appearances in all competitions for Monaco, in what became the season that established him as one of the biggest talents in Europe. Just recently, the defensive midfielder was announced as Real Madrid‘s new Summer signing. The Spanish giants paid close to €100 million according to reports – making this the team’s 4th most expensive signing of all time.

VSA

This card does pop up as a defender every now and then in this mode, and overall, it performs alright. Tchouameni is not overly difficult to get past, however, he is tall with quite a heavy build. This allows him to get in the way of passes/shots and add more pressure on the player. For a CDM, he defends well and that’s pretty much all that’s needed from a card like this in VSA.

FM Stats Aurelien Tchouameni FIFA Mobile 22 Ligue 1 TOTS

H2H

TOTS Tchouameni is a reliable option for H2H, because of how rounded and complete the card is. Defensively, Tchouameni is solid, with great tackling and aggression. He feels fairly smooth with the ball and is decent at carrying it through midfield. Tchouameni’s passing is a standout though, both short-range and long-range.

He plays like an orchestrator in midfield with his ball-playing ability. Sometimes, this card would make runs forward as well, which may be useful for some players. However, for lone CDMs, it is important that the card stays back to support the defensive in case of a counter-attack. Tchouameni can get caught out of position from time to time, so this is something to be careful of.

Jonathan Clauss (RWB)

FIFARenderZ Jonathan Clauss
  • Overall: 94
  • Requirement: 28000 TOTS Community Points
  • Skill Boost: Balanced

Overview

Clauss had his best season by output in his entire senior career. He was involved in 16 goals in 37 appearances for the French outlet, RC Lens. The Frenchman made his move to Ligue 1 for the 2020/21 season and he has been an important player to the team since. His runs and lethal crosses from the right have been crucial in creating goals for Lens.

VSA

An RWB has not been a common position in FIFA Mobile 22. Ideally, all cards should be in position for VSA, so it’s difficult trying to find a place for Clauss whilst avoiding drops in chemistry/skill boost. Aside from that, this card occasionally pops up as a defender in this mode (when positioned as an RB). However, he is far from a good defender, and he struggles to impose a presence as well. All in all, it doesn’t make sense to go for TOTS Clauss for a VSA team, and it’s not recommended either.

FM Stats Jonathan Clauss FIFA Mobile 22 Ligue 1 TOTS
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

It’s evident this card is much better suited for H2H teams. Using Clauss as an RM or an RB is much better than as an RWB. This is mainly because there are no premium LWBs at the time of writing (the best one is at 90 overall). Clauss is a great wide outlet to have in the team. His dribbling and movement feel very fluid and fast. Passing-wise, Clauss is tidy and accurate.

Crosses are not as game-changing in this season of FIFA Mobile 22, and this is supposed to be one of the things Ligue 1 TOTS Clauss specializes in. However, if you can get multiple players in the box, a cross from Clauss could be deadly due to the second balls and deflections. This card is very much oriented to counter-attacking football. Clauss’s whole game focuses around charging forward into spaces and trying to get the ball into the box as often as possible.

Alban Lafont (GK)

FIFARenderZ Alban Lafont
  • Overall: 95
  • Requirement: 42000 TOTS Community Points
  • Skill Boost: Reflexes

Overview

FC Nantes finished 18th last season, and just slipped away from relegation. This season though, they improved drastically, finishing 9th in the Ligue 1. Lafont was an important player for the French outlet, starting in all 38 matches. At just 23 years old for a goalkeeper, he is certainly a good prospect and will be one to watch in the coming years.

VSA

In this season of FIFA Mobile, goalkeepers aren’t worth dwelling on when building VSA teams. They’re not that different in terms of shot-stopping, and it’s more their “value-for-overall” which makes the difference. TOTS Lafont is very tall and big in build, so it appears as though he covers the goal more than other keepers.

However, his shot-stopping is nothing too special. In a way, Lafont’s massive presence may be useful, to essentially try and intimidate the other player. At higher ranks though, against more skilled players, this is unlikely to make much of a difference.

H2H

It’s the same case in H2H as in VSA for TOTS Lafont. He looks huge on the pitch, although his shot-stopping is not really that stand out in comparison to other keepers. Again, perhaps his size may put off some players but this is unlikely to happen against more experienced opposition.

William Saliba (CB)

FIFARenderZ William Saliba
  • Overall: 95
  • Requirement: 42000 TOTS Community Points
  • Skill Boost: Tackling

Overview

Saliba had his first complete-playing season and managed wonders for his team. The 21-year-old made 36 appearances for the French club, Olympique Marseille, helping them to 15 clean sheets – almost double their total from last season. Saliba has gone on to feature for the France national team as well, which is a fantastic achievement for someone of his age. The Frenchman will return to his parent club, Arsenal, and it will be exciting to see what he can achieve in the Premier League.

VSA

Saliba is a tall and strong CB that is generally a tough player to get past. He can move attackers with just his pure strength, and he often gets in the way of shots and passes mainly because of how big his presence is in-game. In addition, his tackles are well-timed and clean as well.

However, Saliba’s weaknesses are skill moves like the Roulette and the Lane Change. He often gets stunned and is slow to react after, which essentially takes him out of the game for a few seconds. All things considered, Saliba is a decent defender for VSA, but there are certainly CBs on the market that suit this mode better.

H2H

This card is definitely more suited to H2H than VSA. In addition to his defending skillset, Saliba has a great pace to catch up with fast attackers. He is also comfortable with bringing the ball out from the back and spraying passes at distance. Saliba can easily slot into a dual-CB partnership and can also function anywhere in a back 3 with little problem.

Benjamin Bourigeaud (RM)

FIFARenderZ Benjamin Bourigeaud
  • Overall: 96
  • Requirement: 67000 TOTS Community Points
  • Skill Boost: Dribbling

Overview

Bourigeaud had a fantastic season with Stade Rennais. He started in all 38 matches for the French outlet and totaled 11 goals and 12 assists. The 28-year-old was the heart of Rennais every game and helped them to a 4th place finish. In fact, Bourigeaud’s 121 chances created the last term is the best out of any player in the Top 5 European leagues.

VSA

Just by looking at the stats, it is clear this card is definitely not targeted for VSA teams. The 3* weak left foot for a right midfielder is not great at all. Whilst Bourigeaud’s shots are decently accurate and powerful, they aren’t reliable, and trying to move onto the right foot each time is quite inconvenient. Whilst Bourigeaud is a fine dribbler, the end product just isn’t there. On top of that, he only has 3* skill moves too – something else that isn’t ideal for VSA.

FM Stats Benjamin Bourigeaud FIFA Mobile 22 Ligue 1 TOTS

H2H

We can see a better version of this card in H2H than in VSA, by a long distance. Bourigeaud is of course, very fluid and fast with the ball, but also has a brilliant passing range too. He can pick out a player from any range, both through a crowd and over. Bourigeaud is best played as a wide playmaker that stays towards the wing. His incisive passes and shots from outside the box are the key things to make use of.

Neymar Jr (LW)

FIFARenderZ Neymar Jr
  • Overall: 96
  • Requirement: 67000 TOTS Community Points
  • Skill Boost: Agility

Overview

Neymar’s 5th season with PSG was another plagued with injuries. However, the Brazilian showed shades of his former self with 22 league appearances. Neymar racked up 13 goals and 6 assists in these games, averaging 0.86 contributions per game. The 30-year-old has been one of the most feared attackers of the last generation, because of his deadly attacking skill-set and outrageously quick feet.

VSA

Neymar has always been a useful card in FIFA Mobile, particularly in VSA. His 5* weak foot combined with his brilliant agility and ball control make him lethal for attacking chances. Neymar’s shots are also reliable, especially the outside-foot shots which rarely ever miss. Left-wingers usually appear a lot more often than other positions in VSA chances, and having Neymar there is a great solution.

FM Stats Neymar Jr FIFA Mobile 22 Ligue 1 TOTS

H2H

Like in real life, Neymar feels brilliant on the ball and is rapid on the turn. His two-footed nature means he can be unpredictable in the box, and a pain to deal with for opposition defenders. The card isn’t especially centered towards playmaking but that doesn’t mean it can’t play a good through ball either. Neymar’s low strength stats are easy to point out but it barely makes a difference in-game. All in all, this is a really great card for any team.

Marquinhos (CB)

FIFARenderZ Marquinhos
  • Overall: 97
  • Requirement: 111000 TOTS Community Points
  • Skill Boost: Strength

Overview

Marquinhos was one of PSG‘s most important players last term, starting 32 of their games. He helped them reclaim the Ligue 1 title by contributing towards 13 clean sheets and popping 5 goals for himself at the other end. This upcoming season will complete a decade of his time at PSG.

VSA

Overall, Marquinhos is a solid defender in VSA. He marks attackers well and although he does get slightly stunned by skill moves, he can react quickly. Despite his small presence on the pitch, Marquinhos is quite strong with his tackles. For the large price, perhaps this card isn’t worth it for VSA but nonetheless, it’s still a decent player all around.

FM Stats Marquinhos FIFA Mobile 22 Ligue 1 TOTS

H2H

In addition to his defensive skill set, Marquinhos is capable of bringing the ball out from the back. As he was originally a midfielder in real life, he still possesses that great passing range and control over the ball. He is quite fast too, which is always a bonus for H2H. Because of this, he can fit into any formation, be it a back three or four.

Wissam Ben Yedder (ST)

FIFARenderZ Wissam Ben Yedder
  • Overall: 97
  • Requirement: 111000 TOTS Community Points
  • Skill Boost: Target Man

Overview

Ben Yedder was one of the best strikers in French club football last term. He fired 25 goals and assisted a further 5 in just 29 league starts for AS Monaco. This has been a season to remember in particular for Ben Yedder, who set a personal record for the most domestic goal contributions.

VSA

Ben Yedder is a lethal player in the box for VSA. He feels smooth with the ball and has an excellent burst of speed. His finishing ability is also fantastic, the Frenchman can finish with both feet and can get incredible power on his shots. Ben Yedder is a little short in height but he can still head the ball with power and has a fair bit of strength too. All in all, this is a great striker for the team.

FM Stats Wissam Ben Yedder FIFA Mobile 22 Ligue 1 TOTS

H2H

Similarly in H2H, Ben Yedder is a constant threat whenever he gets the ball inside the box. He can score from anywhere in there and has a 5* weak foot, making him a handful for opposition defenders. For those that like their strikers to make runs in behind, Ben Yedder can do that as well! He has quite a bit of pace and can run into spaces often. This is a really deadly striker to have and can suit multiple playstyles.

Martin Terrier (LM)

FIFARenderZ Martin Terrier
  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 163000 TOTS Community Points
  • Skill Boost: Long Shots

Overview

Terrier seemed to have exploded onto the scene in the last season of the Ligue 1. The 25-year-old bagged 21 goals and a further 3 assists, more than doubling his previous highest season goal tally (9). He helped his team, Stade Rennais, to a respectable 4th place finish, securing UEFA Europa League football for next season.

VSA and H2H Gameplay

FM Stats Martin Terrier FIFA Mobile 22 Ligue 1 TOTS
Image via Electronic Arts

Stats-wise, this looks like a pretty decent card, and it is in-game too. However, there are certain things that annoyingly bring it down. The combination of 3* skill moves and 3* weak foot is far from ideal. This is particularly irritating in VSA where Terrier’s weaker left foot continuously came in the way.

The card can’t do one of the game’s best skill moves either (the Lane Change). By ignoring those two factors, this is actually a really great card. It’s lightning-quick, really smooth with the ball, and powerful with the finish. For such a high price, perhaps there should be more, which is why this card was slightly disappointing.

Lionel Messi (RW)

FIFARenderZ Lionel Messi
  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 163000 TOTS Community Points
  • Skill Boost: Speed

Overview

Messi ended his first season at his new club on a high, by winning the Ligue 1 title. The Argentine star scored 6 and assisted 14 in just 24 league starts, with an additional five goals in seven UCL matches. His year may not have fully gone as planned, but even in an “under-performing” campaign, Messi put up numbers that many players dream for. That’s a symbol of how high the standards are that he has set himself, and just how good he has been all this time. Who knows which edition of FIFA Mobile 22 holds the final Ligue 1 TOTS card for Lionel Messi? So drink it in, and enjoy it whilst it is here!

VSA and H2H Gameplay

FM Stats Lionel Messi FIFA Mobile 22 Ligue 1 TOTS
Image via Electronic Arts

TOTS Messi is a complete winger that can both create play and finish it. Just like in real life, Messi is very fluid with the ball and is really fun to use. His passing range is great, and this card is capable of making those crazy through balls. Shooting-wise, Messi is fantastic too – he can score from anywhere in the final 3rd, and in particular, he’s got one ridiculous finesse shot.

The card’s low strength is easy to point out from the stats, but that rarely comes up as an issue in-game. For H2H, it’s worth noting that Messi plays like more of a wide playmaker. He doesn’t make runs forward/in behind. Instead, he will receive the ball around the halfway line and then carry it forward to try and create something.

Kylian Mbappe (ST)

FIFARenderZ Kylian Mbappe
  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 173000 TOTS Community Points
  • Skill Boost: Shooting

Overview

It’s difficult to put words together and describe how good Kylian Mbappe can be at times. The 23-year-old is an absolute freak of nature and we still haven’t seen him at his absolute best either. In the last season, he racked up 28 goals and 17 assists in just 35 appearances – about 1.3 goal contributions per game. By doing that, Mbappe casually claimed both the Top Scorer and Top Assister awards. It really is scary to think about what Mbappe would like at his full potential.

VSA and H2H Gameplay

FM Stats Kylian Mbappe FIFA Mobile 22 Ligue 1 TOTS
Image via Electronic Arts

Those that have used Mbappe’s previous cards in this season of FIFA Mobile 22 will know how enjoyable this guy is to use. He’s got an incredible shooting ability, alongside great dribbling and electric pace. On the ball, there are few cards in the game that are as smooth and fluid as Kylian Mbappe. He has fairly decent strength too, making him a handful for opposition defenders. This card is of course very expensive, but it’s a nice card regardless.
