Cosmic Chests are a new form of loot systems added at the start of Season 7 in Fortnite. These are new loot boxes spread around the map, which contain some very valuable items. When you first see one though, it may appear a little confusing to handle. What do Fortnite Cosmic Chests offer
Since these Chests are quite difficult to come by in the game, the loot it contains is very much valuable. Cosmic Chests have something for everyone, as they drop one epic-legendary weapon for each member in the squad. They include weapons ranging from an Epic Assault Rifle to a Golden Rocket Launcher. There will also be 3 extra bonus items for each squad member, which can be some Gold Bars, 125-1050XP, or 1-3 Alien Artifacts.
These Alien Artifacts are very valuable as the only other way to obtain them is through the weekly challenges. Moreover, that Battle Stars are also expected to be dropped from these Cosmic Chests but are not yet present in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7. This may be added in the near future.
Where to find and open Cosmic Chests in Fortnite
Cosmic Chests are a team-oriented item that requires all squad members to participate in the opening of it. This means you won’t find this item in any solo mode. They’ll pop up around the map and are very much similar to supply drops. You’ll see an indication on the map of where it is by their unique purple icon. However, there is an element of risk involved in going towards them, as they can give your position away. Moving onto how to open these chests.
The Cosmic Chests are squad-oriented items. All squad members need to be involved when you open the Cosmic Chest. As you approach the crystal-like object, it will ask for all squad members to gather around. Once everyone is there, each player must take turns to hit a Weak Spot that appears on the crystal, by any means (ax, gun, etc).
Players will be asked to take turns with this in a randomized order. Once you’ve hit the weak spot, it is then another squad member’s turn. If you hit the crystal when it isn’t your turn, you’ll simply get pushed back. Be careful especially if you’re on high ground. There are 10 Weak Points, once they’re all hit, the chest opens and you can claim your loot.
Whilst opening, remember to be aware of your surroundings as these Cosmic Chests are heavily sought-after items. A lot of enemy squads may be looking to grab the loot along with you, so be prepared for potential combat.
