The Premier League season is now underway, and as is the FPL campaign running alongside. As you begin building your first teams, there will, of course, be a lot of different factors to consider – from fixtures to pre-season form, to the chances of even starting. However, one key, almost underlying, factor is player ownership. Most regular hitters in FPL will be owned by a lot of players, and remember, Fantasy Football is all about doing better than your opponents. That would be very difficult to do if you carry a lot of the same players to each other. That’s where the differentials come in. These differentials are the uncommon players which tend to go under the radar, but can still have the potential to score tidy points. It’s a good idea to have a couple of these differentials as they can really give a strong edge over your opponents, and a return from them can really help you with the advantage. Here is a list of FPL Fantasy PL 2021/22 Differentials that can bolster your squads ahead of gameweek 2.
FPL Fantasy 2021/22 Gameweek 2 Differentials
1. David Raya vs Crystal Palace (Goalkeeper) – 4.5 million
Brentford made a statement start in their first top-flight game since 1947, with a 2-0 win over a sleepy Arsenal. The newly-promoted team stood strong in defense and David Raya will be one of the players to thank for that. Raya made 4 saves helping his side to a clean sheet, claiming a bonus point along the way, making his total a solid 8 points. For a play with just 3.5% ownership, that is a pretty good number.
The opponents for Brentford this week are Crystal Palace, a team that is under new management and so are still adapting to a play-style. Palace suffered a 3-0 loss to the hands of Chelsea in GW1, and the whole team only mustered 1 shot on target in 90 mins. Drafthound has given Brentford a promising 33% chance of a clean sheet in GW2. If you are in need of a new GK, Raya is a very strong contender, who also faces Villa, Brighton, and Wolves in the 3 games after – all winnable fixtures for Brentford if they continue this form.
2. Ismaila Sarr vs Brighton (Midfielder) – 6 million
Watford was the other newly promoted team that enjoyed a strong start to the season, with a 3-2 win over Aston Villa. One of the scorers was their star man, Ismaila Sarr, who also claimed 2 bonus points to give him 9 points total in GW1. Having ownership of just 4.7%, Sarr was a real threat for Villa on the wing all game, with an average of 2 shots and 1.53 key passes per 90. The opposition for Watford this week is Brighton, a squad with a defense riddled with injuries, knocks, and outgoings. Sarr could be having a field day in front of Brighton next week.
3. Adama Traore vs Spurs (Midfielder) – 6 million
Despite blanking during the 1-0 loss against Leicester, Traore still showed glimpses of class. PL ranks him 2nd on the ICT index for threat, something which is quite overlooked according to the 1.2% ownership. In addition, Traore ranks highest in shots (6) with 1 Big Chance missed. Clearly, he is either hungry for goals or is being played in an advanced position, or both for that matter. As well as going for the goal, he’s known for helping his teammates to it too, Traore has an average of 1.6 key passes and 4.33 crosses per game. The Spaniard has not proven himself so far with solid numbers but is looking very promising and explosive indeed.
4. Jacob Murphy vs Aston Villa (Midfielder) – 5 million
Murphy was a surprise scorer in FPL, totaling 7 points for the 0.3% of managers that decided to own him. In the game against West Ham, Murphy played a surprisingly advanced role in the attack and is expected to start again in the next game VS Villa. He tallied 3 shots (1 on target) and a total of 3 crosses in that game too, nothing too flashy but for someone with the level of known threat of Murphy, that is quite underlying. Perhaps the goal was a one-off, but with on-form players like Saint-Maximin and Wilson up-front, Murphy could be in for a couple of assists too.
Aston Villa had a leaky defense in GW1, as they were caught off-guard in front of Watford and conceded 3 goals to the newly promoted London side. If this defensive issue were to continue, their opposition attackers would look a lot more threatening. Of course, Murphy is a very risky pick but could be brilliant value for just 5 million as a midfielder.
5. Andros Townsend vs Leeds (Midfielder) – 5.5 million
Everton‘s manager, Rafael Benitez has made his tactical plan quite clear during the match against Southampton in GW1. The side won 3-1 and recorded 25 crosses in total in the 90 min, ranking them 5th highest in the league. The whole idea seems to be trying to get as much supply to their target man striker in DCL as possible.
The club has also brought in some new faces to help in this, including Andros Townsend. The Englishman totaled 5 points in GW1, with 1 assist. On top of that, Townsend made 7 crosses, with an average of 4.33 per 90 – not bad at all. He is only owned by 0.8% of managers with a price of just 5.5 million. The only obstacle is determining whether or not he actually starts, although he is predicted to do so against Leeds in GW2.
