With the completion of gameweek 18, the Watchlist is back to identify players who have caught the eye, based on recent performances and upcoming fixtures. Manchester United and Spurs are just returned from the covid scenario which will lead to double gameweek for them and Arsenal has a very strict act towards covid, therefore, we will keep special focus on them.

Nevertheless, the show must go on, and we’re back with the list of the top 5 differential players from the upcoming FPL gameweek that can prove most beneficial to your rank. It’s looking to be a hectic day as usual, with FPL managers over the world trying to follow the events of all the matches at once. Perhaps sneaking in a few differentials can catch your league opponents off-guard!

1. Sergio Reguilon (Defender) – 5.2 million

Accounting for the whole season, Spurs have had quite a strong defense, conceding just 19 goals – the 6th best in the league. In addition, their xGC (20.2) is the 4th best out of all teams, despite the leaky start to the season. Conte will be the one who takes much of the credit, who has reformed the way in which Spurs line-up at the back. Spurs have managed 3 clean sheets in his first 5 games in charge, and look hungry for more. In GW19, the Spurs are predicted 44% chance at a clean sheet, meaning left-back Sergio Reguilon could be looking at a decent points total already.

Reguilon’s attacking threat adds the layering on top as well, since there is now potential for further points. The Spaniard’s 7 shots are the most out of any other Spurs defender this season. His 14 accurate crosses, 18 touches in the opposition box and 13 key passes are also leading numbers amongst his teammates in similar positions.

In GW19, Tottenham faces Crystal Palace at home. They have no doubt, had a strong season so far but despite that, Spurs having the edge playing in their own stadium is a big factor. In addition, they’ll face Southampton and Watford shortly after, and their recent postponed fixtures mean that it looks likely they’ll be getting a double gameweek very soon.

2. Gabrielle Martinelli (Midfielder) – 5.4 million

it’s impossible not to mention the stunning form of Gabrielle Martinelli whose brace helped Arsenal to a 4-1 win over Leeds on Saturday. despite only taking two shots his 1.16 expected goals figure only trailed Harry Kane during the gameweek. The 20-year-old has started in five of their last six gameweeks playing a direct hand in 6 goals across that spell and averaging 7 points per game.

Only Salah and Jota can better his 2.65 non-penalty expected goals figure in that time and he ranks 4th best with a tally of 13 shots in the box. Sterling, Mahrez, and Odegaard are the only midfielders able to better his 13 attempted assists meanwhile. Arsenal doesn’t have the most promising upcoming fixtures but a trip to Norwich awaits them in-gameweek 19. The canaries have shipped 6 goals from three matches in the last four game weeks with only Newcastle and Leeds conceding more.

3. James Maddison (Midfielder) – 6.8 million

Another team that has suffered in the last two weeks is Leicester whose last outing was a 4-0 win over Newcastle back in the gameweek 16. James Maddison has earned double figures in three of his last four appearances notching 3 goals and 2 assists between gameweeks 13 and 16. No player produced as many as his 43 FPL points in that time an average of 10.8 per game.

Meanwhile, his tally of 14 shots trailed only to Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah and just five players could better his 8 attempted assists. No teammate could rival his 7 efforts on target or his 1.56 expected goals figure. Whilst Leicester face the top two teams in the next two game weeks they take on Norwich, Burnley, and Brighton in consecutive matches from gameweek 21 and they also have their previously postponed matches against Spurs and Everton still to be rescheduled.

4. Harry Kane (Forward) – 12.1 million

Tottenham Spurs came out firing after their enforced two-week break holding Liverpool to a 2-2 draw with Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son each getting on the scoresheet. The England captain ended a six-match drought with only his second goal of the season and his first at home. Whilst he was fortunate to remain on the field after a poorly time challenge on andy Robertson. He went on to miss 2 or 3 more glorious chances. All 6 of his shots came from inside the box a gameweek high total while only Bukayo Saka took more than his 9 touches in the opposition penalty box.

It was a much-improved performance from Antonio Conte’s side on the whole with their tally of 6 big chances ranking joint best with Arsenal during the gameweek. Kane and Son were each involved in 4 of those big chances given. The uncertainty surrounding football matches at the moment there’s perhaps an advantage in targeting teams that have already dealt with an outbreak of COVID-19 cases. It’s also worth noting that Spurs now have three matches that need to be rescheduled increasing their chances of future double gameweek.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo (Forward) – 12.5 million

With the Liverpool-Leeds match getting postponed due to Covid situations, selling Mo Salah now actually seems plausible. Additionally, after the next two gameweeks, facing Leicester and Chelsea, he is scheduled to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament for Egypt. Therefore across the next five gameweeks, you can definitely expect Cristiano Ronaldo to outscore him massively.

Ronaldo faces Newcastle, Burnley, Wolves, Aston Villa, and West Ham in the next five gameweeks, and with a rejuvenated Manchester United side under Rangnick, they are looking to get their mojo back, up and running. Ronaldo boasts 6.57 touches in the box per 90 mins along with creating 1.05 big chances per match. His 0.69 non penalty xG+xA (expected goals + expected assists) is highest amongst FPL forwards. He is the best captaincy option this week against Newcastle away. Additionally, Man United is also scheduled to have a double gameweek sometime in either gameweek 21 or 22, so there is no reason whatsoever why you shouldn’t ditch Salah for CR7.
