Genshin Impact 2.1 Best Characters

SS tier – Overpowered Characters

Raiden Shogun (Electro, Support/Sub-DPS)

Raiden Shogun, the electro archon can provide consistent electro damage even when she’s switched out from the team. She can also provide the team with the passive energy regen while she is fighting. Her elemental burst’s uptime is almost instant as well, but you still need to wait for the cooldown time to use the skill again. When you have Raiden Shogun on your team, I can assure you that you will never run out of Elemental Bursts.

Zhongli (Geo, Support)

As always, Zhongli, the Geo Archon on Liyue is the most overpowered support character that provides insane amounts of damage while providing the utility of shields for your team. Depending on how you build your Zhongli, he can either provide Geo Damage in a big area or have enough health that his shield (Scales with his Health) prevents any kind of damage dealt to you.

Venti (Anemo, Support)

Venti, the Anemo archon from Monstadt, is a very overpowered character that can still be usable even if you do not build decent artifacts due to the powerful crowd control that his elemental burst can provide.

Xiangling (Pyro, Support/Sub-DPS)

Xiangling is one of the most famous chefs in Liyue Harbor. She is a 4-star pyro polearm user, she is considered one of the strongest Sub-DPS in the game with her consistent pyro damage with her elemental skill and elemental bursts. She tops the rankings as a pyro support/sub-DPS due to the new artifact set as well as the new polearm is obtainable through Quests

Ganyu (Cryo, DPS)

Ganyu, as previously said, has unrivaled dominance in terms of DPS scalings in terms of charge attacks. She is a 5-star Cryo bow user who, like Hu Tao when paired with a hydro character, can exceed the majority of DPS characters in terms of damage output.

Bennett (Pyro, Support)

Bennett Genshin

Despite being a 4-star pyro character, Bennett provides the best possible utility when it comes to a support character. His elemental burst is what players think as to the reason why his kit is overpowered. This skill provides an area that provides healing and boosts the attack of your team based on Bennett’s attack damage. Once you get the first constellation on him, his limitations on the attack damage boost and healing will be gone. This is what makes him the best pyro support.

Kamisato Ayaka (Cryo, DPS)

When paired with a frozen comp and Blizzard Strayer artifact set with a decent weapon, Ayaka can deal high amounts of continuous cryo damage from her Elemental Burst that’s comparable to Ganyu’s continuous charge attacks. With a proper team, the energy needed on her burst is low enough to keep continuing to use the skill.

Hu Tao (Pyro, DPS)

Hu Tao, when paired together with Tartaglia or Xingqiu, can provide constant high-damage vaporize reactions.  She is a 5-star Pyro polearm wielding that can out-damage most other DPS options on the lower tiers with minimum expenditure. When put into an elemental reaction team comp, she can provide damage that can reach more than 200k.

S tier – Strong Characters

Sucrose (Anemo, Support)

Genshin Impact Sucrose Guide
Sucrose – Image by miHoYo

Sucrose is a 4-star anemo catalyst user that is very similar to Venti. Like Venti, it’s also possible for Sucrose to be a viable character even when the artifacts are built badly due to her elemental burst providing decent crowd control to medium to small-sized monsters. But unlike Venti, building her on full Elemental Mastery allows elemental reaction teams to provide significant damage due to the elemental mastery buff that Sucrose can provide for her teammates. Without her, elemental reaction comps would be weaker.

Xiao (Anemo, DPS)

Xiao is a 5-star Anemo polearm wielder who excels as the team’s major damage producer. Xiao is a top-tier DPS character who, with a great build, weapons, and a supportive squad, may be able to compete with higher SS-tier DPS characters. However, with his weakness of being dependent on his elemental burst to deal significant damage, Xiao has to be on S-tier.

Fischl (Electro, Support/ Sub-DPS)

Fischl is a 4-star electro bow user that is very strong support or sub-DPS depending on your playstyle. Her Elemental skill and elemental burst allow her to release Oz into the fray and deals consistent electro damage when deployed. She fits well with teams that need consistent electro damage to proc reactions such as Superconduct (For Physical teams), Electro-charged, or Overload.

Kujou Sara (Electro, Sub-DPS/Support)

Sara is a 4-star electro bow-user that is considered to be a very strong Sub-DPS that makes use of decreased charge attack time as her kit. Her elemental skill and elemental burst can provide an additional attack bonus for your characters. You can see her potential even more once you unlock her second constellation.

Notable Characters

Genshin Impact 2.1 Tier list
Notable Characters – Yanfei and Electro Traveller

Electro Traveler (Support)

With the new region of Inazuma being unlocked in Version 2.0, the option for the Electro Traveler can be an option for players to put into their roster. With Anemo and Geo traveler falling short of other characters, the Electro traveler can potentially be a good support character from your team if you are starting out in the game without decent 5-star characters.

Yanfei (Pyro, DPS)

Being a 4-star pyro catalyst user, you would think that Yanfei would fall behind with the other 5-star characters from just the fact that they are stronger. In fact, once built properly, she can be a force to be reckoned with. If you somehow unlock all her constellations through wishes, now would be a great investment in building her.

Final Thoughts

Although this tier list exists solely for making the lives of the readers much easier when playing this game, you can decide whether you would want to follow it or not. You can feel free to build your characters as long as it fits your playstyle to where you enjoy playing the game. Genshin Impact is a game where you take your time and try things at your own pace. Future updates will most likely bombard us with many things to do so it is understandable that we may like to rush everything and finish the events. No matter what you do with the game, always remember to have fun.
