Genshin Impact Alhaitham Guide: Abilities, Skillset, Talents and more

Breaking down the different skills and attacks of Alhaitham!

“Admonishing Instruction” Alhaitham is the premier Dendro main DPS in Genshin Impact. He is an event exclusive 5* character released in the first half of Version 3.4, and he is the first character of his kind in the entire roster. His kit is very complicated, and this Genshin Impact Alhaitham Guide will try to explain how his abilities work in great detail.

Holding this skill will cause it to behave differently.

Hold: Enters Aiming Mode to adjust the direction of Alhaitham’s rush attack.

A Chisel-Light Mirror

When this skill is unleashed, Alhaitham will generate 1 Chisel-Light Mirror. If there are no Mirrors at this time, he will generate 1 additional Mirror. Chisel-Light Mirrors will have the following properties:

1.    When he possesses Chisel-Light Mirrors, Alhaitham’s Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks will be converted to Dendro DMG. This cannot be overridden.

2.    When attacks of the aforementioned kind hit opponents, the Chisel-Light Mirrors will unleash a Projection Attack that deals AoE Dendro DMG based on the number of Mirrors on the field.

3.    A total of 3 Chisel-Light Mirrors can exist at once.

4.    The Chisel-Light Mirrors will disappear one after the other over time, and will all disappear when Alhaitham leaves the field.

Particular Field: Fetters of PhenomenaElemental Burst
Creates a Particular Binding Field and deals with multiple instances of AoE Dendro DMG.
If Chisel-Light Mirrors exist when this ability is unleashed, all such Mirrors will be consumed and increase the number of DMG instances dealt.
2s after this ability is unleashed, if 0/1/2/3 Mirrors were consumed, Alhaitham will generate 3/2/1/0 new Mirrors in turn.

Ascension Passive 1: Four-Causal Correction

When Alhaitham’s Charged or Plunging Attacks hit opponents, they will generate 1 Chisel-Light Mirror. This effect can be triggered once every 12s.

Ascension Passive 4: Mysteries Laid Bare

Each point of Alhaitham’s Elemental Mastery will increase the DMG dealt by Projection Attacks and Particular Field: Fetters of Phenomena by 0.1%.

The DMG of both aforementioned abilities can be increased by a maximum of 100% this way.

Utility Passive: Law of Reductive Overdetermination

When Alhaitham crafts Weapon Ascension Materials, he has a 10% chance to receive double the product.

Genshin Impact Alhaitham Guide: How to use his abilities

Normal attack

Alhaitham’s normal and charged attacks deal with physical DMG by default. The scaling is mediocre and this is not his main source of DMG. These attacks can deal with Dendro DMG if he is in possession of Chisel-Light Mirrors. These Mirrors are what provide him with the Dendro infusion which is at the core of his gameplay.

Elemental skill

Alhaitham’s elemental skill works very similarly to Keqing’s. The difference is that he does not need to cast the skill a second time to teleport. The hold version also appears to function similarly. The main difference is that Keqing’s skill gives her a temporary but unconditional Electro infusion. Alhaitham’s skill does not give him an unconditional Dendro infusion.

It gives him 2 Chisel-Light Mirrors if he started with 0. Using the skill at any point will generate 1 Mirror. Alhaitham can gain 1 Mirror when his charged or plunging attack hits opponents, but this can only occur once every 12s. The Mirrors disappear if Alhaitham is switched out and switched back in, so he needs to be on-field to take advantage of the Mirrors.

One Mirror disappears every 4s and they grant him a Dendro infusion as long as he possesses at least one Mirror. Having multiple Mirrors will increase the infusion duration as one Mirror disappears every 4s, so having two Mirrors will result in a total of 8s infusion duration.

He can possess a maximum of 3 Mirrors at any given time and obtaining another Mirror while he already has 3 Mirrors will refresh the duration of the current Mirror. The duration refresh does not happen if he has 1 or 2 Mirrors. This ability deals with 1 instance of Dendro DMG when cast.

The amount of Mirrors possessed also affects the amount of DMG Alhaitham does. During the Dendro infusion, when normal, charged, or plunging attacks hits opponents, the Mirrors trigger Projection attacks. The DMG of the Projection attack is multiplied by 1/2/3 depending on how many Mirrors he possesses. Each type of Projection attack has its own unique animation. One Projection attack can be triggered every 1.6s.

The goal is to have as many Mirrors as possible to deal with higher Projection DMG as well as to have a longer infusion duration. The biggest problem with Alhaitham’s elemental skill is the long cooldown of 18s. If he started with 0 Mirrors and the skill granted him 1 Mirror, it would expire after 4s and he would not be able to deal Dendro DMG for 14s. Therefore, Mirror management is required to get the most out of him.

Elemental burst

Alhaitham’s burst deals with 4 instances of AOE Dendro DMG. If he possessed any Mirrors at the time of casting, it will consume all Mirrors and deal 2 additional instances of AOE Dendro DMG based on the number of Mirrors consumed. If he possessed 3 Mirrors, the burst will deal a total of 10 instances of AOE Dendro DMG.

After the burst animation, Alhaitham will regenerate Mirrors equal to 3 minus the number of Mirrors consumed. Consuming 2 Mirrors will regenerate 1 Mirror, consuming 1 Mirror will regenerate 2 Mirrors, and so on and so forth.

Ascension 1 Passive

Helps him gain Mirrors outside of casting his skill and burst. This makes it easier to maintain the Maximum number of Mirrors possible at all times.

Ascension 4 Passive

Gives him a DMG bonus to Projection attacks and burst ticks based on EM. makes EM a viable stat to build on him.

Genshin Impact Alhaitham Guide: Playstyle

Alhaitham should not be used as a raw Dendro DMG-reliant DPS. He is not the Xiao or Wanderer of Dendro. Alhaitham is best utilized to deal with Dendro reaction DMG, mainly Spread. He can also be used as an enabler for Hyperbloom.

  • It is wise to use his burst at the start of his rotation to immediately gain 3 Mirrors. Try to maintain as many Mirrors as possible by using his skill. Another way of obtaining Mirrors is using charged attacks (Ascension 1 passive).
  • It is possible to switch out to other characters and switch back to Alhaitham to obtain the 3 Mirrors from his burst. This is because the Mirrors are gained after the burst animation ends.

Alhaitham needs to be played on-field to maximize his Dendro reaction DMG as well as to not lose out on the Dendro infusion. Alhaitham’s main source of DMG is the Spread reaction, which requires an Electro teammate to pull off.

An Electro character who can apply Electro off-field while Alhaitham triggers Spread on-field is going to be his best teammate. This role could be filled by Fischl, Yae Miko, Kuki Shinobu, or Raiden Shogun. Alhaitham’s role and team comps will be discussed in another article.

Genshin Impact Alhaitham skillset: Talent Priority

Elemental skill > normal attack > elemental burst

Most of Alhaitham’s DMG comes from Dendro reactions, which scale off character level and EM. Therefore, it is essential to level him to 90. Alhaitham’s raw Dendro DMG scales off his normal attack level, meanwhile the Projection DMG scales off his elemental skill level.

Final Thoughts

Alhaitham is not an easy-to-play character. Alongside Tartaglia and Hu Tao, Alhaitham is one of the most complicated characters in Genshin Impact’s roster. Just like Tartaglia, Alhaitham punishes the player for messing up the team rotation. Just like Hu Tao, Alhaitham requires the player to manage several things to get the most out of him. But if executed properly, Alhaitham becomes the best Dendro DPS Genshin Impact has to offer at the moment.

That’s all for today’s Genshin Impact Alhaitham guide, which discusses his skillset and different abilities. Let us know in the comment section below!
