Baizhu has previously been introduced into the story as the Doctor of Bubu Pharmacy in Liyue and is well-renowned to be an excellent physician. How to unlock the Baizhu Story Quest “The Heart of Healing” Lagenaria Chapter: Act I in Genshin Impact
To unlock and play Baizhu’s first Story Quest, players must:
- Be at Adventure Rank (AR) 40 and above.

Baizhu’s 1st Story Quest in Genshin Impact is divided into 3 different parts, with rewards attached to it.
Part One: The Search for a Physician
Synopsis
Someone seems to be asking for help outside Bubu Pharmacy.
- Teleport to Liyue Harbor on the map close to Bubu Pharmacy in order to start the quest. You will encounter an NPC child named Ayu along with Herbalist Gui and Qiqi. Baizhu enters the conversation shortly after.
- Afterward, Baizhu instructs that he joins Ayu, Traveler, and Paimon in order to find Ayu’s missing father. Teleport at the gates of Liyue Harbor in order to ask the Millelith guards about Ayu’s dad.
- The guards will reveal information that they see him leaving towards Luhua Pool. Search the area near Luhua Pool.
- Ayu’s father will then be spotted trying to approach the edge of the cliff. Approach Ayu’s father and stop himself.
- Luckily, Hu Tao then rescues him before the group and informs him that she will be joining the party in order to keep an eye on Baizhu. Return to Bubu Pharmacy to treat Ayu’s father for his illness.
- Baizhu runs down the symptoms and informs everyone to leave while he tries to heal him. Exit Bubu Pharmacy and wait for Baizhu as instructed.
- Baizhu is a very mysterious character and as such you try to ask around for information. Hu Tao is spotted near the Bubu Pharmacy and hence you ask her about Baizhu.
- After Hu Tao gives the rundown about him, you should wait till the next morning (08:00 – 10:00) in order to progress the story.
- After the healing process, go inside Bubu Pharmacy and talk to Baizhu.

Part Two: The Quest for a Cure
Synopsis
There seems to be something else going on with the poison in Jialiang’s body.
- Jialiang wakes up and seemingly says he feels better. Although, there are some mysteries left unrevealed. Baizhu and the Traveler go to the west of Qingce Village in order to investigate their home.
- The poison that was inside Jialiang was infused with a dead and forgotten God. Look for clues around the area in order to find more information.
- Talk to Baizhu and ask for his analysis. Xiao briefly makes an appearance and asks us to consult him about the history of Qingce Village.
- Return to Bubu Pharmacy as Jialiang starts to be in poor condition due to the poison. Baizhu takes him in for treatment.
- Wait till the next morning (08:00 – 10:00) to progress the story and talk to Ayu and the others afterward.
- Wait for Baizhu outside the back room and talk to him.

Part Three: The Formula for a Miracle
Synopsis
The boundary between medicine and poison seems to have blurred, as has the line between life and death… Where can one find a truly perfect remedy, or does it exist at all?
- Return to the west of Qingce Village in order to find Jialiang’s wife and rescue her. You will enter a Domain where you get to trial Baizhu.
- Follow Jialiang inside the cave and discuss the situation with him and the others.
- Head to the underground space and discover Jiangli lying on the ground.
- Talk to Baizhu and the others and proceed deeper into the ruins. A cut scene takes place where Jialiang gets unconscious.
- The POV will show up as Jialiang as he lies in bed back in Bubu Pharmacy.
- Afterwards, you will be in Baizhu’s POV where Jiangli asks for you to follow her outside.

In-Depth Review and Discussion of Baizhu’s Story Quest ACT I
Baizhu’s Characterization and Story Plot
Baizhu has always been a forefront shrouded with mystery the minute we see his introduction into the Liyue storyline back in the Archon Quest. As such, we only see glimpses of his back story and personality through the lenses of other characters. Finally, several patches later, Baizhu becomes a playable character and we unravel the answers to all of our questions regarding him and his snake Changsheng.
Another note-worthy story-telling is the difference between Baizhu and Hu Tao’s ideology regarding life and death. Erosion and the cycle of life have always been a core theme in Genshin Impact through many of the Archon and Story quests. Baizhu’s Story Quest, in particular, has shed more light on his principle of avoiding Erosion to which he seeks to achieve Immortality. Baizhu is a man of great empathy and kindness. As a doctor, he swore to cure everyone and seeks to get rid of such a painful process of death by trying to find a way to reach immortality so that no individual has to suffer from losing their loved ones.
Of course, as noble and nice of a dream as it is, his ideology and views of life and death are practically childish and romanticized, and seems to strive from a place of stubbornness and lacking self-awareness. That is where Hu Tao joins in, someone who opposes such views. As a Director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, it is no doubt that someone like Hu Tao would have an opposite ideology than Baizhu. Hu Tao views life as a cycle that will end eventually in death. She believes that people should live life to the fullest so that when they are on their deathbeds they can pass on in peace to the Afterlife without any regrets in the mortal world.
The contact of both Baizhu and Hu Tao’s personalities, career paths, and views is what makes their relationship so compelling and entertaining to witness during this Story Quest. To further oppose Baizhu’s antics, Xiao himself appears on the Story Quest and shares what he thinks about Baizhu’s goal, to which he curtly warms him of not searching for Immortality as he points out how it may not be the Blessing as he makes it out to be. A comment coming from an Immortal being such as Xiao should be an eye-opener onto why something as frivolous as this should not be pursued, and yet Baizhu remains adamant on his decision.
Changsheng’s Lore
Changsheng on the surface level seems to be an ordinary snake that can speak, who calmly rests on Baizhu’s shoulders. But this Story Quest has revealed information regarding his Lore and backstory and particularly why he seems to be with Baizhu in the first place. An amazing and beautiful cut scene reveals the story of an admirable and pure-hearted Doctor who seeks to help people’s sickness. Seeing such suffering around him compelled the Doctor to seek out a legend of a Herblord.
Of course instead of that he discovers a white Snake who offers him a contract where she will reveal all the secret arts of healing in exchange for tying their soul together while also warning him that this contract will harm his own health. Generations after generations the contract has been passed down to the next when the lives of the Doctors pass away until Baizhu becomes the next vessel. Baizhu promises Changsheng that the contract will end with him, as he seeks to find Immortality in order to let Changsheng live on.
Final Thoughts
The story quest shed great light on the concept of life and death, contrasting the different viewpoints about them through the eyes of characters such as Baizhu, Hu Tao, and Xiao along with several other NPCs. What’s also nice about the story is how much lore we have unraveled about the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, especially the surprise of finding out that Hu Tao’s great uncle is Baizhu’s master, which further explains the hostility between these two characters.
The story while it ended on a more hopeful note for the family, we see Baizhu struggling with his health due to the poison in his system and the knowledge that he helps patients by transferring their illness onto him. Adding onto the fact that such methods also deplete his health and life, it is eye-opening to see how heroic and empathetic Baizhu is, his determination of helping people around him, and his cause of seeking immortality in the meantime.
