The Invisible barrier is a world quest in the series of Old Notes and New Friends, added in version 3.1 of Genshin Impact in the newly released Hypostyle Desert for players to explore. In this quest, players need to search different ruins for some “Ruins Record” to get rewards like primogems, mora, etc.
How to unlock and start the Invisible Barrier world quest in Genshin Impact
Completion of the Duel Evidence world quest in the quest chain series of Old Notes and New Friends unlocks the Invisible Barrier world quest. The quest starts near Aaru village.
Talk to Soheil when you’ve reached the area, he’ll give players a quest item “Sohail’s Old Notes“.
Sohail mentioned in his notes that there were four transparent ruins that he could not enter, and go to the places he has marked.
Transparent Ruin: 1
Defeat the Ruin machine at the entrance and enter the ruin.
Take the light prism and activate the obscuring cells.
Players can see the exquisite chest when standing on the obscuring cell but need to go around to open it, open the exquisite chest and you’ll find the “Transparent Ruins Record I“
Transparent Ruins: 2
Go inside the Ruins start the mechanisms, take the light prism above the exquisite chest and activate the obscuring cell.
After activating the two obscuring cells go left and open the exquisite chest. You’ll find the “Transparent Ruins Record III” in it.
Transparent Ruins: 3
Go inside the ruin and turn left you’ll find the light prism use it to activate the corresponding obscuring cell.
Use anemo to blow the dust and start the mechanism, it will unlock the ruin.
Open the exquisite chest but in this one Paimon will tell players that it’s just some stone bits.
Transparent Ruins: 4
Enter the ruin go the other way around, grab the light prism and activate the obscuring cell.
Rotate the cell and move towards the exquisite chest, this one gives players “Transparent Ruins Record II”.
Report back to Soheil to complete the quest.

- Hero’s wit x 3
- Mystic Enhancement ores x 3
After completing and unlocking the four exquisite chests in the four transparent ruins players will unlock an achievement, “The King of four Lands” which is worth 5 primogems.
