Pokémon Go is a game from Niantic that allows you to live out your dream of being an actual Pokémon trainer out in the real world with the help of augmented reality. You can catch Pokémon, train them, trade them, and fight in various Battle Raids and Pokémon Gyms with their help. You can have multiple types of Pokémon such as Shiny Pokémon, Pokémon belonging to specific regions, and so on. One such type is known as Lucky Pokémon and in this guide, we are going to talk about what are they, how you can trade them, and what sets them apart from other Pokémon.
What are Lucky Pokémon in Pokémon Go
Some Pokémon in Pokémon Go have a special status such as Forme, Shinies, and so on. One such status is Lucky Pokémon and if a Pokémon has this tag attached to itself, you will need 50% less of the Stardust required normally to power it up.
As Stardust is a rare commodity in Pokémon Go, Lucky Pokémon helps in reaching the maximum CP at a much lower cost. They also have minimum IVs of 12/12/12 which is for HP, Defense, and Attack respectively. One of the ways you can get Lucky Pokémon is through a Lucky Trade which you can do with your Lucky Friends.
What are Lucky Friends in Pokémon Go
Lucky Friends is a very rare and special friendship status that you can get with any of your Best Friends in Pokémon Go randomly. If you become Lucky Friends with someone, the next trade that you will conduct with them is guaranteed to turn out to be Lucky. But it is extremely rare to become Lucky Friends with someone as it is believed that there is around just a 1.1% chance of achieving this status with any of your Best Friends.
To increase your chances of becoming a Lucky Friend with someone, you will need to perform any of the following actions every day with your Best Friend. This can range anywhere from opening a gift, teaming up for Battle Raids or Pokémon Gym battles, or anything else that will increase your Friendship level. If you are successful in becoming Lucky Friends with anyone, it will be shown in your Friends list.
How to get a Lucky Pokémon using a Lucky Trade in Pokémon Go
There are a total of two ways to use and you’ll have a guaranteed chance of getting a Lucky Pokémon. The first one is with the help of Lucky Friends with whom you can have a guaranteed Lucky Pokémon Trade once after which you will return to being Best Friends with them in Pokémon Go.
Lucky Trades are identical to regular trades and also cost the same amount of Stardust. It is only after the trade that you will get to know if you got a Lucky Pokémon or not. If you do end up becoming successful, both the players involved in the trade will get Lucky Pokémon.
Another method using which you would be able to get Lucky Pokémon is by trading any Pokémon that was caught in July or August of 2016. This was the year when Pokémon Go was first released and upon trading these Pokémon, they would automatically turn lucky.
But in December 2023, it was announced that Pokémon which have been in your storage since 2018 will also be guaranteed to become a Lucky Pokémon after trading them. Niantic has also increased the limit of getting Lucky Pokémon using this method from 15 to 25.
You should know that you might not always turn out to be lucky using this method as only works once per pair which means you can only trade once per friend if both of you have a Pokémon from 2018 or before and upon trading, both of you will receive a Lucky Pokémon.
But even though you can use this method for a total of 25 times, it will work just once with this particular friend. You should keep in mind that this limit doesn’t apply to Lucky Friends, which itself is a very rare phenomenon but if you are lucky enough, you can trade with them for as many chances as you get.
That’s everything you need to know about a Lucky Pokémon Trade in Pokémon Go!
