Wurmple is a Bug-type Pokémon belonging to the Hoenn region. Wurmple was released in Pokémon Go in 2017. This Bug-type Pokémon has a branched evolution tree. This means Wurmple can evolve into 2 or more different kinds of Pokémon. Wurmple can evolve into Silcoon or Cascoon. And Silcoon in turn evolves into Beautify and Cascoon evolves into Dustox. Understanding the Branched Evolution in Pokémon Go
Even before the release of Wurmple, the concept of branched evolution was introduced. Some of the other Pokémon that have branched evolution are Eevee, Slowpoke, Poliwag, Oddish, Tyrogue, etc. And among these Eevee has the most variety of evolutions(8).
In the case of Eevee, the evolutions can be determined by the naming techniques or evolving the Eevee according to certain conditions. The same is true for most of the Pokémon with branched evolution i.e. evolutions can be determined by meeting certain criteria but not for Wurmple.
How to Evolve Wurmple in Pokémon Go
In the case of Wurmple, the evolution into Cascoon or Silcoon is completely random. There is no method to determine whether Wurmple would evolve into which one. Common misconceptions exist like evolving Wurmple during day time give Cascoon and during the night time would give Silcoon. There is no proof for this. Players cannot predict the evolution.
Requirements for Wurmple Evolution
Wurmple has a middle evolution and then a final evolution. The 1st evolution requires 12 Wurmple candies and the final evolution requires 50 Wurmple candies. Hence for evolving a Wrumple completely, players would need 62 Wurmple candies.
Importance of Wurmple Evolution
There is just a bit of difference between Beautify and Dustox. Beautify has higher attack stats and Dustox has higher defense stats. Also, the shiny variants of Wurmple and all of the evolutions are available in-game. Neither Beautify nor Dustox is META relevant in-game. Neither for pokemon battles nor gym raids. Because in both cases there are better options available.
