eFootball 2024 and EA Sports FC Mobile: A comparison of the best mobile football titles

Not a battle!

When we think of Football, arguably the most popular sport in the world, we try to enjoy it through either physical or digital means. Among the digital platforms, mobile has become a prominent platform for football enthusiasts since it is a way you can enjoy the beautiful game anywhere you like. While discussing and drawing a comparison of all the football games on mobile, we get to see two standout contenders in this arena, KONAMI’s eFootball 2024 and EA Sports FC Mobile.

Although both have been popular in their own ways, there have been plenty of comparisons since their previous versions. Well, I think even I should join the party, so I am presenting you this eFootball 2024 and EA Sports FC Mobile comparison. This is not actually a showdown or versus battle of the two, but discussing the games when you present them both together. We have reviewed both games previously, so you can head over and read the eFootball 2024 review and EA Sports FC Mobile review to understand this comparison better.

Gameplay: Both games feature their own style

Gameplay, I’ll be very honest, eFootball is light years ahead. I’m a massive fan, and if you suspect any bias in my statement, well, you’re absolutely right. There is no football game that comes close to eFootball in this aspect, so comparing FC Mobile would be the wrong thing to do. Be it the player movement, adaption of playstyles, passing, and shooting, eFootball seems close to being real.

On the flip side, FC Mobile isn’t a dud by any means. As I mentioned in my review, it surprised me with how it leaned toward a touch of realism in the gameplay. Of course, there’s still a laundry list of improvements needed to reach the pinnacle, but hey, it’s no longer giving me the vibe of playing with robots, and that’s a step in the right direction, in my book.

Graphics: Both share a tad bit of similarity in cutscenes

Achieving top-notch graphics on mobile devices can be quite a challenge, but both FIFA Mobile and eFootball 2024 have managed to pull it off to a considerable extent. When it comes to player faces, it’s a bit of a mixed bag for me. Some players look pretty darn good in FIFA Mobile, while others shine brighter in eFootball.

Now, as for the celebration cutscenes and pre-match rituals, FIFA Mobile seems to have nailed those down quite nicely. On the other hand, even though eFootball lacks prematch cutscenes for players, it makes up for it with some seriously cool fouls, special celebrations, and goal-attempt replays. Some players might not share the same opinion as me, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

Licensing: EA Sports FC Mobile takes an edge here

EA Sports FC Mobile, even after being drifted apart from FIFA, boasts official licenses for a wide array of leagues, teams, and players, of renowned football competitions like the English Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and others. On the other hand, eFootball 2024 also secures licenses for select leagues like Serie A, AFC Champions League, and teams like FC Barcelona, and Bayern Munich, although its licensing agreements may not match the extensive coverage seen in its competition.

Events: eFootball is direct with this aspect while FC Mobile is more diverse

eFootball primarily offers events that revolve around complete matches. This means players are required to participate in full matches, even in cases like Golden Goal where scoring early still necessitates a full match.

Hence all events, apart from the reward are somewhat the same. FC Mobile takes the cake here since there are a range of events you can play, from drills to scenarios, to full matches, with different rewards and progression that keep you hooked.

Monetization: eFootball emerges as more F2P-friendly

eFootball 2024 distinguishes itself by being entirely ad-free, a welcome feature for players who prefer an uninterrupted gaming experience. In terms of monetization, the game offers a fairly balanced approach. While there are premium, epic cards available, which can be acquired through coin-saving, there isn’t a high need to spend money, allowing players to assemble impressive teams without breaking the bank.

In contrast, FC Mobile adopts a more aggressive monetization strategy. Players can watch ads to earn gems and other valuable items, and there are enticing player cards hidden behind packs. However, it’s worth noting that while top players are attainable, the journey to acquire them might be slower for those who choose not to make in-game purchases.

Final Thoughts

In the grand scheme of things, both games have their strengths and weaknesses, and ultimately, what matters most is the individual preferences of their respective fan bases. It’s worth noting that beyond the common thread of being football games, eFootball 2024 and EA Sports FC Mobile diverge significantly in terms of player training, mechanics, abilities, and skills, which is a positive aspect.

Therefore, for fans seeking the closest mobile experience to real football with realistic gameplay, eFootball 2024 stands as a compelling choice. On the other hand, if engaging in events and other aspects outside of gameplay takes precedence, EA Sports FC Mobile may be the preferred option, despite some gameplay limitations.
