Ahmedabad has topped among Indian cities for Mobile gaming, reports Opensignal

Tier II and Tier III cities in India registered a stronger foothold

London-based mobile analytics company, Opensignal published a report focusing on the city-wise number of mobile gamers in India. According to the report, Ahmedabad has topped amongst the Indian cities for mobile gaming. Ahmedabad is popularly known for its wide variety of mouth-watering snacks and as the center for trading and cutting diamonds. And now the latest study by Opensignal ranks Ahmedabad at the top followed by Navi Mumbai and Vadodara in terms of numbers of mobile gamers.

Even though Ahmedabad has topped amongst the Indian cities for mobile gaming, Opensignal mentions that there is an increase in the number of mobile gamers in tier 2 and tier 3 cities. It is majorly because of the increasing penetration of budget-friendly smartphones, low-cost data, and boost bandwidth in the world.


Ranking Process

A total of 48 biggest cities in India were taken into account by Opensignal for this ranking, and the data was recorded between April 30 to July 29, 2020. All the cities were rated on a scale of 0-100 with a focus on how users view real-time mobile multiplayer gaming on cellular networks. “The study considered popular multiplayer battle arena games such as Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG Mobile, and Clash Royale.

Opensignal focused on three key factors for rating the overall gaming experience. It was the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) latency, Packet Loss, and Jitter which were taken into consideration for ranking the cities. UDP latency measures the responsiveness of the network connection. Packet loss is the amount of data packets that never reach their destination. And lastly, Jitter is the variability of the arrival time of data packets.


List of Top Cities

Ahmedabad secured the pole position with an overall score of 71.7. It was followed by Navi Mumbai at rank 2 with 70.1 and Vadodara at rank 3 with 69.8. There was high competition for the top 10 cities. Moreover, Surat came at number 4 with a score of 68, followed by Bhopal at rank 5 with 67.8, Mumbai at rank 6 with 67.8, Gwalior at rank 7 with 67.7, Indore at rank 8 with 67.7, Thane at rank 9 with 65.7, and Rajkot at rank 10 with 64.3. It’s worth noting that the Indian state of Gujarat and Maharashtra had 7 cities in the top 10. With a score of 47.9 marks, Thiruvananthapuram ranked last.

Other Tier 1 cities on the list include Chennai with a score of 63.6, Hyderabad with 63.1, Pune with 61.5, Bangalore with 61.3, Delhi with 59.8 and Kolkata with a score of 57.2.
