Bandai Namco is shutting down ONE PIECE: Thousand Storm from January 2024

The title was shut down globally in 2018

Japanese video game publisher Bandai Namco has a long history of shutting down several ONE PIECE IPs. ONE PIECE: Thousand Storm is going to be the latest addition to the list as the publisher announced that the game is shutting down its run in January 2024. The exact shutdown date is the 23rd of January 2024 (at 1 pm JST) when the title will officially wrap up its journey after eight years of being in the market, providing entertainment to the One Piece franchise fans.

Developed by DeNA and published by Bandai Namco, ONE PIECE: Thousand Storm got its initial release back in 2016 in Japan. One year later on the 25th of January 2017, its publisher launched the title worldwide. After almost eight years of service in Japan, this will mark the 2016 mobile title’s final end, meeting the same fate as the worldwide version back in 2018.

The devs have halted the sale of Rainbow Coins, the game’s premium currency

The official website of the title is now showing the notice of the game’s closure in January 2024. As the announcement first came out, the title ended the sale of paid app currency on November 21st, 2023. Purchased Rainbow Coins will be available to spend till the end date. Though the publishers said that the date may change, the netizens are convinced that ONE PIECE: Thousand Storm will no longer be in the Japanese market after the closing date in January.

But soon, the game was lifted from the global market and saw its end on the 13th of December 2018. The free-to-play multiplayer co-op RPG title featured the iconic captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, Monkey D. Luffy. After the global shutdown, the game is currently available in Japan. However, it won’t be after January 2024.
