Battlegrounds Mobile India: Release date, esports, new branding and more

Same game, same feel but with a new name.

Ever since the ban of the hugely popular battle royale game PUBG Mobile in India in September last year, professional gamers and casual players alike have waited for a much-awaited return of the game. The ever-popular game is set to release as Battlegrounds Mobile India, after half a year’s worth of rumors and waiting. Today, i.e., the 6th of May, KRAFTON Corporation, the owner of the rights to PUBG Mobile has released the first teaser on PUBG Mobile India’s official YouTube channel, which has been rebranded earlier this day along with all other social media handles and websites related to the relaunch of the game in the country.

Rebranding

The official sources and the official PUBGM team have confirmed that PUBG Mobile will no longer be launched under the name PUBG Mobile India, instead, it has been rebranded to Battlegrounds India. The rebranding has been applied across all social media handles including Facebook and Instagram and on YouTube. The app will hereafter be regarded as a separate entity to the Global version of the game and will be exclusive to players from the Indian subcontinent. Battlegrounds Mobile will NOT be linked to any other version of the PUBG Mobile.

Battlegrounds Mobile India esports

While no specific announcements have been about the nature or format of the esports scene following the teaser and confirmation about the relaunch of the game under a different name, there have been some statements to draw up a rudimentary idea about it.

The esports scene involving Battlegrounds India as a whole would be a standalone affair as per the latest news with the region of India having its own tournaments and leagues in contrast to the system followed by other regions such as SA and SEA. It will be similar to the already existing esports and gaming ecosystem in the Chinese region where PUBG Mobile has been rebranded to “Game For Peace” with minor changes similar to Battlegrounds Mobile, its Indian counterpart.

Fans can hope to see domestic tournaments being held with their own prize pools such as the PEL and PEC in China. There’s still no confirmation if Indian teams will be able to participate in Global Tournaments such as the PMPL and PMGC or if global teams will be able to participate in Indian tournaments.

Clear policies

Along with the new entity, KRAFTON has also issued a separate set of Terms and Conditions for Battlegrounds Mobile. The terms and conditions will be applicable to Battlegrounds Mobile downloaded from all third-party platforms including Google Play Store and the App Store but not limited to them.

Unlike the Global version of PUBG Mobile marketed and developed by Tencent, Battlegrounds Mobile and all its in-game data packs and applications are developed and marketed solely by KRAFTON, Inc. a video game company operating from and based in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. KRAFTON will be responsible for providing game services, the official community website, and other game-related services. The website has also told in a statement regarding minors/under 18 players that “we may ask consent from your parent or legal guardian concerning the use of in-game services”.

Also, it states that

  • The game should be used by only one person on a single device at a given time
  • The company will not be responsible for any damage or loss caused to the user when the damage is not reasonably foreseeable to the company
  • If the damage occurs through the breach of the company’s Terms and Conditions, where it’ll be solely the responsibility of the user in case anything happens
  • The company might terminate or change any of the terms with or without notice and for any reason or no reason at all
  • The company will not reimburse the loss of in-game currency or progress due to the termination of the user’s account occurring from a breach of terms, whether voluntarily or involuntarily

Policy Concerning Underage Users

  • If you are under 18 years of age, you will only be able to play the game maximum of 3 hours a day.
  • If you are under 18 years of age, the maximum daily amount of using our paid service will be 7,000 INR ( $100)

The full list of terms are available at the official Battlegrounds India website.

When will Battlegrounds Mobile India release

As of yet, the Battlegrounds Mobile India release date is still undisclosed. However, pre-registration will go live from May 18, 2021. Further announcements are expected to be made within the month of May along with the probable uploads of further teasers. It is expected that the game will make a return as soon as possible, due to the increasing anticipation surrounding the game and to make room for the Indian teams to play and qualify for annual tournaments. With its huge player base in India, it won’t be a surprise if Battlegrounds India is released anytime soon.
