Call of Duty Mobile has been banned in Iran

Another game banned in Iran

To the dismay of players of the popular action battle royale FPS game residing in Iran, trying to play Call Of Duty Mobile is not possible anymore. As of immediate effect, Call of Duty Mobile has been banned for the users of Iran without official notice. Opening up the game now gives an announcement message- part of which says, “Unfortunately, we are not yet ready to release the game in your area”. This sudden development impacts millions of players, some of whom had made up careers around the game.

Reasons for Call of Duty Mobile being banned in Iran

While there’s no straightforward explanation provided by Activision or the Iranian Government, according to experts, this sudden ban might be because of the tensions between the United States and Iran, which has led to the US imposing financial sanctions on Iran. These sanctions basically prevent countries and corporations from trading with Iran and Activision, a publisher based out of the US definitely has to comply. Games like League of Legends, Clash of Clans and Clash Royale were also banned in Iran earlier because of this.

Now it’s not uncommon for games to be banned in countries because of political tensions, cultural differences, violence and gore or a bunch of other factors. China has banned a bunch of games for gore and violence. India not too long ago announced a ban on 59 apps of Chinese origin then again banned a bunch of apps, a few of them being PUBG Mobile, a popular Battle Royale game and also shut down operations of Arena of Valor.

Final Thoughts

That being said, this ban has certainly negatively impacted people in Iran who have invested time and money into this game. So far, there’s no sign pointing towards the game returning and there aren’t any safe workarounds either. Players using VPNs can actually be banned from the game for a period of 10 years; so there’s not a lot that can be done and Iranian players seem to be completely cut off from the game. While we wait for what the future holds for the players of Iran, we have nothing much to add about the growing tensions on the same.
