As we come to the end of the year, Clash of Clans is gearing up to deliver a blockbuster update for our fans. The majorly awaited Town Hall 17 update is arriving at Clash of Clans, and it will also bring along a brand new fifth Hero, with a new defense, increased levels for the buildings, and more features, which I will share in this article.
Clash of Clans Town Hall 17 update details: Every new feature explained
Town Hall 17 is coming
There were plenty of discussions about how the Town Hall 17 will look, and now, the official reveal for the same has arrived. Leaned towards a dark theme, black is going to be the new color for the Town Halls.

Upgrading to Town Hall 17 introduces some major changes, starting with merging the Eagle Artillery into the Town Hall itself. Once this upgrade begins, the action is permanent and cannot be undone. To proceed, you need to have a Level 16 Town Hall and a Level 7 Eagle Artillery. The upgrade costs 20,000,000 Gold and will take 15 days to complete.
Once upgraded, the Town Hall will have 10,400 hitpoints, which is an increase of 400. This upgrade also unlocks new buildings and features. You’ll gain access to the newly added defense Giga Bomb, along with new additional structures: one Archer Tower, one Multi-Archer Tower (requires two Level 21 Archer Towers), one Ricochet Cannon (requires two Level 21 Cannons), one Giant Bomb, and one Seeking Air Mine.
New Town Hall weapon: Inferno Artillery
The Inferno Artillery is a new addition to Town Hall 17, combining the Eagle Artillery into a new, devastating weapon. This artillery launches four enemy-seeking explosives that leave behind burning fire pools where they strike. If there are fewer than four enemies in range, it can target the same enemy multiple times, dealing heavy damage.

Each projectile directly damages its target without splash damage, but the fire pools it creates deal damage over time to both ground and air units in the area. The weapon remains active at all times. Unlike previous Town Halls, the death bomb effect has been removed from Town Hall 17 hence when it is destroyed, it no longer deals damage.
Inferno Artillery Stats are as follows:
- Number of Targets: 4
- Effect Duration: 6.8 seconds
- Max Damage per Second: 75
- Range: 12 tiles
- Damage Type: Multiple Targets
- Targets: Ground and Air
New Trap: Giga Bomb
Another new arrival is part of the defense. This new trap dubbed the Giga Bomb, is a defensive device designed specifically for Town Hall defenses in Clash of Clans. Shaped like a compact red explosive, it sits on a base with wheels, allowing it to deploy quickly or activate when enemies get too close.

The fuse on top hints that it could trigger a powerful blast, likely dealing significant damage to units around the Town Hall. It might take time to explode though, as from catching fire to exploding, there will be a time when you can have your troops escape. The Giga Bomb comes with three upgrade levels.
Giga Bomb Stats are as follows:
- Area of Effect: 4.5 tiles
- Damage Type: Area Splash
- Trigger Radius: 3.5 tiles
- Trigger Housing Space: 18
New Hero: Minion Prince
A new hero was already on the cards for a long time, and finally, we might see a bluish monster debuting in the game. He looks like a father figure to the minions, so aptly coined as the Minion Prince who will be in the Air. This flying powerhouse is designed for players at Town Hall 9 and above, specializing in aerial attacks and weakening defenses.

He will also be having the Dark Orb as the first Hero Equipment, which will be a Common rarity, and the Henchmen Puppet, which summons tanky melee minions. The gameplay visuals for the same are yet to come, so I’m excited about how this will pan out since this should be a projectile ability that deals area damage with minions coming out.
New Troop: The Thrower
The Thrower is a new troop unlocked at Barracks Level 18 with the use of Elixir. However, this becomes available at Town Hall 16. With 16 housing space, The Thrower combines the long-range capabilities of a wizard with a slower attack but with tankier durability. Its high hit points allow it to survive hits that would typically eliminate other long-range troops.

While it doesn’t bounce attacks like a Super Bowler, its single-target focus makes it more predictable and hence you can plan your attack as per your need. Overall, this is a Long-range, and high-durability troop, so this will be very handy in your attacks.
New Building: Hero Hall
The Hero Hall, available from Town Hall 7, brings all hero functionalities into one central hub. It removes traditional altars and introduces a dynamic system for managing up to four active Hero Slots (from Town Hall 13 onwards). These slots allow you to assign heroes for attack or defense. Additionally, heroes can now be displayed in 3D views, and their progression is tied to the Hero Hall level.

The new Hero system introduces changes to how Heroes work. Heroes are powerful units with their level progression. Hero Slots determine how many Heroes can be active at one time. You can choose one Hero per slot for attacks and defense, and the attacking and defending sets can be different. Upgrading Heroes makes them unavailable for regular attacks or defenses but still usable in wars, legends, and friendly challenges.
The Hero Hall replaces the altar system as the hub for managing Heroes. Unlocked at Town Hall 7, it starts with the Barbarian King. Each level of the Hero Hall adds new Hero Slots, unlocks new Heroes, and increases their max level. You can upgrade multiple Heroes at once. The Hero Hall level determines the maximum level for all your Heroes.
Flags replace Hero Altars for defense. These movable 2×2 objects let you assign Heroes to patrol and defend specific areas. Flags block troop deployment but cannot be attacked or destroyed. The Grand Warden now remains in Hero form for defense instead of becoming a statue, adding a dynamic defensive element.
New Defense Building: Firespitter
Firespitter is a new defense that’s coming. The Fire Spitter is the signature defense of Town Hall 17 and has a 434 DPS (damage per second) and an impressive 16-tile range, capable of targeting both air and ground units with splash damage. This makes it even more far-reaching than a ground X-bow, nearly doubling the damage output.

The Fire Spitter fires 20 rapid projectiles over a two-second burst. Each shot can pierce through its primary target to hit another troop behind it, offering significant damage potential. However, its limited coverage of approximately 160 degrees and slight inaccuracy balance its power.
New Spell: Revive

The Revive Spell introduces an innovative mechanic, allowing players to bring fallen heroes back into battle. This spell is unlocked at Town Hall 15 by upgrading the Spell Factory to Level 8. At Level 1, the Revive Spell restores heroes to 60% health upon revival. With an eight-tile range, it maxes out at Level 4 and has a housing space of 2, the use case dynamics will be interesting to see.
The Helper Hut and Lab Assistant
The Helper Hut is a new building introduced in Clash of Clans, designed to manage the Builder’s Apprentice and the new Lab Assistant. This building costs 1 million Elixir and has no build time, making it accessible instantly. With the Helper Hut, the Builder’s Apprentice, which was previously part of the Town Hall, now has a dedicated space, alongside the Lab Assistant.
The Lab Assistant, unlocked at Town Hall 9, functions similarly to the Builder’s Apprentice but focuses on laboratory upgrades. Initially available for free at Level 1, the Lab Assistant reduces one hour of lab upgrade time daily with a working speed of 1.

Upgrades for the Lab Assistant start at 500 gems and increase progressively, with the first three levels costing 500 gems each, the next four levels costing 750 gems each, and the final four levels priced at 1,000 gems each. This brings the total upgrade cost to 8,500 gems, with Level 12 enabling the assistant to reduce lab upgrade time by 12 hours daily.
Other updates
There are plenty of updates coming. There are a lot of upgrade levels for the buildings in the game, especially the storage since TH17 will be even more grand compared to the previous town hall levels. You can already see the example with the Ricochet Cannon, themed after the TH17.
There are also a lot of discussions surrounding the defense merging. This seems to be a major upgrade for sure, as we might be getting more powerful defensive structures in the wake of a new hero. You can read the recent AMA by Stuart to get more overviews on what can be expected.
