Clash Royale Season 40 update and October 2022 balance changes are here

Barbarian Hut gets a rework!

The brand new Season 40 of Clash Royale is around the corner and like it always it has brought along its own set of balance changes into the game. The balance changes are done to keep as many cards in the cycle as possible without one card being way too overpowered or a card being way too underused.

According to Supercell, the current set of changes is set to go live after the patch update on October 4, 2022. Below are the complete details of the October 2022 balance changes in Clash Royale.

Clash Royale Season 40: Balance Changes

1. Cannon/Cannon Cart (Nerf)

In the upcoming update, we are looking at an 8% decrease in the HP of the regular Cannon and the destroyed form of the Cannon Cart. The change has been brought along because the card provides too much value in terms of HP compared to its elixir cost.

2. Royal Hogs (Nerf)

Although small in size, it has been brought to notice by the developers that Royal Hogs AKA little menaces pack quite the punch, maybe a bit too much. Therefore their attack speed for their first hit speed has been lowered by 60% to give the players more time to strategize and work out a counter against the Hogs in a match.

3. Mortar (Nerf)

According to the official balance notes, the Mortar has proven to be quite powerful in ladder decks, especially when paired with the Skeleton King, maybe a bit too powerful we daresay. Therefore its HP has been reduced by 7% to lessen its time in the arena. This will also make it more easily destructible by the opponent to give them a fair chance.

4. Mighty Miner (Nerf)

Ever since the release of the card, the Mighty Miner has seen extensive usage and the highest pick rate among all Heroes. Keeping that in mind, the Mighty Miner is getting an 8% decrease in HP to make him more equal to his peers and to boost the pick rate of other Heroes as well.

5. Goblin Gang (Buff)

About 5 years ago, the third Spear Goblin was removed from the game. Now after all these years, the pick rate of the card has plummeted so much that the developers have finally been coerced into bringing back the member of the group from the days of old with the Clash Royale October 2022 and Season 40 balance changes.

6. Elixir Golem (Buff)

The pick rate of the Elixir Golem has suffered ever since its recent rework. And the increase of 15% in its attack speed is expected to counter that. The increased hit speed should make this troop a greater threat once it makes contact with a building or the towers. The speed increase applies to all three variations of the Elixir Golem as well.

7. Barbarian Hut (Rework)

  • Decrease in Elixir cost from 7 to 6.
  • Increase in spawn speed from 11s to 15s.
  • Increase in spawn count from 2 to 3.
  • Decrease in a lifetime from the 40s to 30s.
  • Decrease in death spawn from 2 to 1.
  • Decrease in total spawns from 10 to 8.

The Barbarian Hut has long been the least used card in the game. And card’s current state is pitiful, to say the least, and this rework is supposed to fix it.

Final Thoughts

Although Supercell has a reputation regarding positive balances, the Barbarian Hut rework is seen as more of a nerf than a rework which is going to damage the card’s reputation even more. This is thus already causing discontent among the players. However, it remains to be seen how the other changes affect the game.
