Facebook, the social media giant that hardly needs any introduction, has entered the fantasy gaming market. They’ve been a part of the gaming industry for a while now with Facebook Gaming, a live streaming gaming community that has millions of active users, and which recently reopened its Black Gaming Creator program. The fantasy gaming service is already out now in the US and Canada. The Facebook Fantasy Games feature is a new addition to the Facebook app.
According to the announcement on their official website, players can create their own fantasy leagues (the leagues can be private or public) and compete against friends and other online users and there will be a public leaderboard. The first game available on the daily sports prediction service in partnership with Whistle Sports is Pick & Play Sports where fans score points for correctly predicting the winner of a big game.
In the near future, they’ll also be partnering with TV shows like CBS’s Survivor and ABC’s The Bachelorette, sports leagues like Major League Baseball and LaLiga Santander, and premier digital publishers like BuzzFeed to create fantasy games centered around correct prediction.
This new venture would again be something that would help Facebook’s growth and the number of time users spend on the app. There’s a lot of competition from other social media services like TikTok, which has overtaken Facebook, and Facebook has dabbled in gaming before. Hence, their previous success means that this new project is probably a good way to bring in traffic.
This new fantasy gaming feature is available directly through the mobile app on both Android and iOS through the bookmark menu and the news feed from notifications. Fans of the fantasy gaming genre should definitely go and check it out.
