Fortnite, the blockbuster battle royale game developed by Epic Games is expected to return to iOS App Store in 2023. In August 2020 the game was removed from App Store and Google Play Store after the violation of a direct payments policy. After a few months, Fortnite made a return to iOS devices through Nvidia GeForce Now.
Fortnite had a huge number of players on iOS devices and the removal of the game for some time hindered the battle royale game’s huge player base. The announcement from Tim Sweeney has reignited hopes among the iOS players of the popular game.
Fortnite to return on App Store after a two-year-long lawsuit
According to the latest developments, it looks like the game will be finally available for playing on iOS again. On January 1, 2023, CEO Tim Sweeney posted a screenshot of ‘Fortnite’ celebrating the new year in 2023 with a tweet saying “Next year on iOS!”
Considering that Fortnite was kicked out of the App Store on August 14, 2020, for violating the App Store terms and conditions as a result of introducing its own payment system in protest against Apple and Google taking 30% as payment fees. The announcement on Twitter looks like the game is returning to the App Store again.
However, no further details have been shared by the developers as to why the game is making a return. Epic Games has been in an antitrust lawsuit over fees with Apple and Google for over two years. In this regard, according to some, the lawsuit has entered the final stage through an agreement. Since the legal matters are on the verge of getting settled, industry insiders are hoping that this would lead to the return of the game.
