Genshin Impact fans are utterly unhappy over MiHoYo’s treatment of Indigenous people, Racism and more

Another controversial point of talk

After numerous reports of hacking incidents reported in the past few weeks where hackers gained access to a large number of accounts, Genshin Impact is in the news again. This time the fans have up their ante against what they call coordinated racism incidents in Genshin Impact. From February, many people in the community reported that the main enemies within the game, Hilichurls are inspired by the indigenous community. Gamers reported that they are ancient African tribes known for sacred dances, worship of gods, and general similarity with shamans. This completely disparages the indigenous tribe and disrespecting their culture.

Complaints on Racism in Genshin Impact

The other major issue that was highlighted in the community was the skin tone of characters in Genshin Impact. It’s a known fact that the majority of characters have light skin and only two characters have dark skin. Players believe that despite coming from the Asian subcontinent, the developers haven’t considered equal representation. This was also reported last month on the official subreddit of Genshin Impact where the complainant was permanently banned after she was racially harassed.

The other major issue that disappointed a large section of players is the encouragement of Pedophilia in Genshin Impact. The NPC ULFR claims to in love with Flora but she is a child and players also discussed the issue in the subreddit that it’s promoting Pedophilia. The intent looks wrong and should be altered as it can have adverse effects on children.

Genshin Impact racism

Not the first controversy

Genshin Impact has been in the news from the time it debuted in September 2020. It started when Genshin Impact decided to censor words like Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Tibet in the game. It was followed by a leak of mobile numbers and email addresses of numerous players online. A large number of players reported on the official subreddit of Genshin Impact about the issue, but it went unanswered by MiHoYo. It was also widely reported on the official subreddit that a large number of accounts have been hacked and players asked MiHoYo to introduce two-factor authentication (2FA) as an advanced security feature. Following which they sent an in-game notice advising players to link an email address and phone number to their account.

MiHoYo needs to address all these issues raised by the community as it’s a very serious concern. People are getting impatient as the studio isn’t responding to their issues. As a result of this unhappiness, we have seen #BoycottGenshin has been trending on Twitter.
