Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar in a recent press conference stated that there will be new regulatory frameworks in place to regulate the Indian gaming industry and India will ban 3 types of games from the markets. No parameters were discussed based on which games will be categorized in the 3 categories but reasons ranging from religious conversion to online gaming addiction were shared for the introduction of new frameworks.
New frameworks will apply to all major app stores including Google Play and the Apple Store
There has been a trend of laws being made more strict for the gaming industry in India, due to which several games have been banned in recent times. This time around, the Government has rolled out some more new frameworks to make sure that the gaming industry remains healthy.
The new laws will target the online gaining industry as per the reports, with an increasing number of religious conversion cases arising from it.
“For the first time, we have prepared a framework regarding online gaming, in that we will not allow 3 types of games in the country. Games that involve betting or can be harmful to the user and that involves a factor of addiction will be banned in the country,” Quoted Mr. Chandrashekhar as per ANI underlining the fact that 3 types of games will be banned from their existence in the gaming market.
According to the official statement, games that involve betting, are harmful to the user and involve a factor of addiction will be banned in India as per the new laws. One thing which remains unclear is how the standards for placing games in these 3 types will be categorized.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation of what would be the standards of judgment for classification however the reasons have been shared.
