King’s Gambit: Chess Survival is adding roguelike action to the fun of chess, now available on Android and iOS

Chess is fun!

Story Highlights
  • King’s Gambit mixes classic chess movement with fast-paced roguelike survival mechanics.
  • Multiple modes offer ranked competition, practice runs, and puzzle-style challenges.
  • The game is fully ad-free and focuses purely on skill and tactical decision-making.

If you are a fan of Chess and looking for something that is fast, offering some extra mechanics, and you just need a mobile device to play, I might have something for you. King’s Gambit: Chess Survival is the title, which adds a little twist to both chess and roguelike arcade games, available on Android and iOS.

While we follow real chess rules, King’s Gambit has some power-ups to make it fun

You’re basically on a chessboard, moving one square at a time, but everything is trying to kill you. Every enemy behaves exactly like their chess piece, rooks rush straight at you, bishops slice diagonally, knights jump in weird angles, and pawns just sit there blocking paths or protecting others.

The most fun part is chaining captures together. If you keep taking enemies without stepping on empty tiles, your combo keeps climbing. If you pull off a long enough chain, and you trigger Royal Frenzy, where you turn invincible for a moment, enemies freeze, and you can just wipe the board clean.

Again, there are multiple powerups on offer. Teleports get you out of bad spots, shields clear space when things get messy, magnets pull rewards toward you, and a second chance can save an otherwise dead run and finally, two types of shields as well.

There are a few ways to play, too. Ranked mode is for chasing leaderboard scores, Practice lets you mess around and learn without pressure, and Missions throw specific challenges at you. PvP isn’t live yet, but it’s coming soon. Best part? No ads, no pay-to-win stuff.

If the premise is interesting, you can download and play on any mobile device via Google Play Store and App Store.
