- Discord is rolling out teen-by-default settings globally starting early March 2026.
- Teens using the app will be extra safe as age-appropriate settings automatically.
Discord has announced a major update focused on teen safety, and you’ll now see teen-by-default settings roll out globally for all users. The changes will begin with a phased rollout starting in early March 2026, and they’ll apply to both new and existing accounts.
The idea is simple: if you’re a teen, Discord will now automatically provide a safer, age-appropriate experience by default, while adults who verify their age will continue to have access to the platform’s broader features and settings.
Discord has privacy-focused age verification options with facial age checks and ID proofs
To support this system, Discord is rolling out a more structured age verification process. If you try to access age-restricted servers, unblur sensitive content, or change certain communication settings, you may be asked to verify your age.
This can be done through facial age estimation or by submitting an ID via Discord’s verification partners. Discord also uses an internal age-inference system in the background, so not everyone will need to manually verify unless it’s required.
Privacy is a big focus of this update. Facial age checks happen directly on your device and aren’t uploaded anywhere, and any ID documents submitted for verification are deleted soon after the process is done. Other users won’t see your age or verification status either.
When the rollout starts, a few new safety settings will apply by default. Sensitive content will be blurred unless you’re verified as an adult. Age-restricted servers and commands will only be available to adult users.
Messages from people you don’t know will go into a separate inbox, and only verified adults will be able to change that setting. Speaking on Stage channels will also be limited to age-verified adults. If you remember, Discord already tested an age verification experimental system with Face and ID scans in the UK and Australia last year.

They’ve also introduced the Discord Teen Council, which is honestly a really positive move. As one of the leading social platforms, Discord is trying its best to make the platform safer and better, especially for younger users, and it definitely feels like things are moving in the right direction.
