Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has revealed that this year’s Project NEXT update is headed to the Original Server on September 17. The Project NEXT 2025 patch brings an Annual Map Change with 4 new maps, the arrival of new hero Obsidia, major revamps for select heroes, new Achievement System, and more. Now, let’s jump right into the details!
Mobile Legends Project NEXT 2025 Update: Annual Map Change
If you’re new to Project NEXT, it is MLBB’s yearly initiative focused on improving the overall gaming experience. It introduces hero revamps and builds, and meta-balancing updates. This year, the highlight is an upgraded battlefield experience with the Annual Map Change.
I’m really looking forward to this update, as it completely changes the way the battlefield feels. Plus, the four new maps are randomly available and will be determined during the hero selection phase. Here are the maps that will be arriving in the upcoming patch:
Dangerous Grass
The first map in the Annual Map Change is called Dangerous Grass, featuring dense grasses spread across the high ground, inner turrets, the Mid Lane, and the Lord’s pit. These bushes open up new ambush opportunities, especially for heroes with high burst damage.

With this update, you can bring back fan-favorite heroes like Eudora and Saber to hide in the bush and then surprise enemies by landing instant-kill combos. Thanks to the addition of Sky Piercer in last year’s Project NEXT, they become even more deadlier with the 80 Lethality stack.
Broken Walls
Next on the list is Broken Walls, a map that introduces new shortcuts across the battlefield. These paths give mobility-based heroes like Johnson more chances to shine, make plays, and secure kills.

Even heroes with less mobility, such as Cecilion, will benefit from these extra escape routes. The biggest change, however, is that Junglers can now slip into the pit from behind, creating more opportunities to steal the Lord or Turtle.
Flying Cloud
Next is Flying Cloud, a map that makes defending the higher grounds quicker and easier. This map features a special platform near your base that activates after you newly respawn, letting you enter a flight state and hover for five seconds beyond the high ground.

This new feature gives you a faster way to join team fights or even stop enemy minions or ganks from breaking through your base turrets. I’m especially excited to play on this map.
Expanding Rivers

The final map is Expanding Rivers, where strong river currents now flow into nearby areas, boosting your hero’s mobility for quicker ganks and better rotations. This change is especially useful for heroes like Nana or Ixia who lack dash skills. The water flow grants them extra speed to escape tricky situations or move faster to support allies in team fights.
Mobile Legends Project NEXT 2025 Update: New Hero Obsidia

With the launch of Project NEXT 2025, Obsidia, the newest marksman, makes her debut in the game in season 38. Once the sovereign of the bottomless pit of the Land of Dawn, she now takes center stage in this year’s biggest patch. For a closer look at her skills and gameplay style, you can check out our hero overview.
Mobile Legends Project NEXT 2025 Update: Major Revamps and Future Additions
The update not only introduces new maps and the hero Obsidia but also delivers major revamps for Abyss heroes, such as Alice, Dyrroth, and Thamuz. Plus, these revamped heroes are set to face the Sovereign of the Abyss in their transformed states.
The Abyss itself has undergone a dramatic reimagining, now featuring scattered and scorched terrains that embody the struggle for survival. Its jagged landscape stands as a constant reminder of lurking danger. These ominous visuals also inspire the fresh designs for Alice, Dyrroth, and Thamuz.
Mobile Legends Project NEXT 2025 Update: Revamped Achievement System
This update also revamps the Achievement System with the addition of the new career achievements. Now, you can unlock multiple tiers of prestigious flairs based on your playstyle and match performance.

Another highlight is the all-new Wall of Honor, which gives you a special space to showcase your milestones for friends and other players. It looks far better than the old version, and I can’t wait to show off my ranking.
Other control and user experience improvements
This update also brings various control and user experience improvements, which are as follows:

- Gameplay is now smoother with refined controls and responsiveness, improved based on community feedback.
- Improved Red-flash visual feedback makes the damaged target stand out more clearly in combat.
- Enhanced controlled effect visuals now make the stun and silence effects much easier to notice.
- The control settings interface has been streamlined for quicker and more convenient configuration.
- There will also be an exclusive name color for World Collectors.
- Various optimizations like Projectile Trajectory, Indicator Performance, and Layering Performance Optimizations.
