Netflix Games has been on a roll as it has successfully penetrated through the gaming industry and has managed to make an audience for itself. The platform has been adding quite a few games lately to its already decent-sized gaming library. However, as per the latest earning call, the show is just getting started, as Netflix has about 80 games currently in development and they have plans to release one every month.
Netflix will bring a diverse range of games, with special emphasis on interactive narrative-based games
Although the new additions to the games catalogue will feature all sorts of games, special emphasis will be given to the interactive narrative-based games which will see an increased user inclusion to the platform. The plans remain around the idea of diversifying the available portfolio of games available on the platform.
The plans also include releasing a few show-inspired games on the platform to keep the users and fans entertained and engaged in between the season breaks of a show.
This would see more show-inspired games making their way to the platform like Stranger Things and Queen’s Gambit which are already available on the platform. Although the split between in-house developed games and third-party games is not clear, it is confirmed that Netflix has over 80 new games in development.
“I think our opportunity here to serve super fandom with games is really fun and remarkable, I think the idea of being able to take a show and give the superfan a place to be in between seasons and even beyond that, to be able to use the game platform to introduce new characters and new storylines or new plot twist events, now you could do that kind of things and then they can then materialize in the next season or in the sequel to the film” Quoted co-CEO, president and director Theodore A Sarandos
Netflix has added quite a few games recently to the platform and now has plans to diversify the platform even further to accomplish the aggressive engagement growth targets it has set for itself as explained by Netflix’s co-CEO, president, and director Gregory K Peters.
The impact of these engagement targets as of now is still minimal and hence Netflix has planned to explore more options and diversify the portfolio a bit further to make sure it has a fruitful impact on the earnings.
