Nexon will release its new MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing game) Tales Weaver: Second Run in Japan this year. Nexon announced the release date in a media showcase held in Japan on 7th July. A Closed Beta Test will be held for Tales Weaver: Second Run on Android and iOS from July 25 to August 1. Twenty thousand participants will be able to play the CBT, with 10,000 coming from each side (Android and iOS). The official server of the game is expected to start in 2022.

Tales Weaver: Second Run is a mobile MMORPG based on Nexon’s PC online game ‘Tales Weaver.’ Nexon first unveiled the game under the name of Tale Weaver M in 2016. After 2016, the game developer did not provide additional information about the game for a long time. It gave birth to many rumors regarding this project being abandoned by Nexon.
After much anticipation, the first promotional video of the game was released in 2018. Later on, in 2021, the developers released some gameplay of the game. Now finally, the game is being released in Japan. Though Korea was also supposed to get CBT, there have been no words from the developers about why Korea did not get the CBT with Japan.
The game boasts a unique story-based co-op combat system
The game plans to present various stories, including a side story and a parallel world story, for the first time in the series. ‘ales Weaver: Second Run also aims to keep the original storyline from the PC game. Second Run will renew the popular episodes 1 and 2 of the original.
A sub-story will show the background of the playable characters, NPCs, and monsters. The episodes will be presented keeping originality to the previous series, but Second Run will further improve the player experience through better storytelling.
‘Tales Weaver: Second Run’ will have a unique co-op combat system. Players can finish their missions and episodes together with their friends. Each player will be granted a different configurable skill combination. The players will also have a special finishing move.
The game will also have a remastered graphic and sound system. Characters and other graphics of the game are updated with a better visual system while maintaining the original concept as much as possible. The iconic background music of Tales Weaver has also been remastered and used in ‘Second Run’.
Tales Weaver: Second Run is developed targeting the Japanese audience
In the recent media showcase, the game’s developers stated several times that the game was being made for the Japanese market. In a video greeting, the executive vice president of Nexon’s development division said, “Second Run is Nexon’s first title developed in earnest targeting the Japanese market.“ It is also stated that it contains elements that Japanese users will enjoy, such as storytelling and splendid directing.
It is not the first time that Nexon is targeting regional releases for more game popularity. In 2015, Nexon released Ghost in the Shell Online exclusively in North America and Europe. But Nexon terminated the service of the game one year later. Though, We can hope that it will not be the case for a title already famous in Japan. The game will bring a new experience and ambiance to the players.
