The Playing for the Planet 2021 Annual Report has been published and it shows just how much ground has been covered in terms of environmental action in the field of gaming. Well-known mobile studios like TiMi Studios, Rovio, Gameloft, and NetEase were just some of the many names involved in this auspicious effort. It raised almost $800,000 for charities this year, led to the planting of more than a million trees, and engaged 130 Million players in various kinds of awareness events for the environment.
The Green Game Jam 2021, a program initiated by TiMi Studios that aims to educate people about the environment through games, also welcomed 10 new studios (Bandai Namco, TiMi, SEGA Europe ) in 2021, increasing the program’s reach to a billion users.
Popular gaming studios are committing to reduce their carbon footprint and raise more awareness
Megacorporations like Microsoft are backing this wonderful program and all the studios who’ve joined so far have made serious commitments that they’re working on fulfilling with several studios like TiMi, Ubisoft, and Ustwo games contributing heavily to the initiative. Not only these popular studios, but many individual studios are planning their actions in these ways and also intend to do many such programs this year.
This step moving forward is certainly a really interesting and very important initiative by the UN to combat the harm caused to our environment. And considering how many gamers are out there, spread all across the globe, and how big the industry is at this point, there’s a lot that the entire community could come together to change.
