PlayStation is planning to release half of its upcoming games on PC and mobile by 2025

This move will make Sony omnipresent on all gaming platforms.

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) president Jim Ryan has confirmed that the company expects half of PlayStation Studios‘ annual releases to be on PC and mobile by 2025. The update was shared by Jim Ryan during a business briefing where he further said that the company is planning to expand to larger platforms and they are committed to releasing at least 12 live service games in the coming years.

SIE has been keeping a close eye on the mobile platform for the last couple of years. They don’t want to miss out on the vast money-making potential of the mobile gaming industry. SIE’s intentions were further confirmed last October when they appointed former Apple Arcade content boss Nicola Sebastiani to lead the company’s mobile operations. The hiring was done after Sony Interactive Entertainment posted job ads where they said that they were planning on opening a new business unit to adapt its most popular franchises for mobile.

PlayStation is aiming to create a paradigm shift in the entire Gaming Industry

This latest update from SIE will create a ripple effect in the video game industry because the company is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to game development. There are multiple PlayStation titles out there that gamers are eager to get their hands on. If PlayStation exclusive titles are made available on PC and mobile, it will create tough competition in the ever-growing game industry.

PlayStation games are lauded by critics and gamers worldwide and with gaming on the go becoming the new norm Sony’s competitors will have a lot of work to do. Last year, after the hiring of Nicola Sebastiani, it was confirmed by Jim Ryan that the platform holder was planning to bring some of its iconic IP to mobile during its current business year ending in March 2022.

PlayStation has a huge catalogue of diverse first-party IP that can transition to smartphone gaming and complement our AAA games or live service games. We are exploring the mobile market with some wonderful PlayStation franchises so please stay tuned

This is a really exciting time to be a mobile gamer as mainstream gaming applications on PC and consoles are getting ported for mobile devices. This major step taken by SIE also shows that going forward mobile devices are democratizing the entire gaming industry in terms of playing games and developing them.
