Pokemon GO introduces the new Size feature in its latest update

Trainers in Pokemon GO have something new to explore now in the game as XXS and XXL Pokemon sizes have been discovered as a part of new features. Pokemon such as Poochyena, Mightyena, and Mawile have recently been observed in these sizes, and players’ Pokédex has been updated to start tracking the sizes of the Pokemon that they catch. Going forward, there is a possibility that other Pokemon may have undiscovered sizes as well!

A new record system will also be tracked alongside each Pokemon’s size

Pokemon Go is launching a sizable new feature that will give Pokémon in the game a chance to be varied sizes along with new animations to match them. The XXS and XXL sizes for Poochyena, Mightyena, and Mawile will be included as part of this Size Feature, which will initially be available for a small selection of Pokemon.

Essentially, this is a brand-new visual feature that makes Pokémon appear bigger or smaller than their typical counterparts that gamers may have previously experienced. A special animation will play when players come across an XXS or XXL Pokémon, and catching one will let them keep track of the sizes of those Pokemon species.

This works similarly to the size variations that have been available in core Pokémon games over the past several generations and won’t affect a Pokémon’s stats or other strengths. This means that you shouldn’t assume that a Pokémon you see will be identical to an Alpha Pokémon from Legends: Arceus. It will more closely resemble what Gourgeist and Pumpkaboo already had in the game.

A new record system will also be kept alongside each Pokémon’s size, with players able to break their own records by collecting at least three Pokémon of the same species to compare them. Niantic‘s plans for expanding this functionality beyond the Hoenn Pokémon that were chosen are currently unknown, and it may wind up being something that is only added in waves for specific species. Today, Niantic announced that Trainer’s can now encounter XXS and XXL sizes of all Pokémon in Pokémon GO.
