Pokémon GO Fest 2026 is shaping up to be a big one, especially if you’ve been waiting for Mewtwo’s Mega forms. Niantic has confirmed that Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y will officially debut during the global event running on July 11th and 12th, 2026, which is also free for the first time.
To get them, you’ll need to take part in Super Mega Raid Battles, where both forms will appear across the weekend. Defeating them rewards Mega Energy (X or Y), which you’ll use to Mega Evolve your own Mewtwo. Interestingly, Mewtwo caught from these raids will already have at least one Mega Level unlocked, and if you’re lucky, even higher.
Pokémon GO Fest 2026 event features all 18 Pokémon types across rotating habitats
Alongside that, a new Mythical Pokémon is joining the game. For the first time in Pokémon GO, players will be able to encounter Zeraora through Special Research. You just need to log in during the event weekend to receive the research, and the best part is, it doesn’t expire, so you can complete it whenever you want.
The event itself follows the usual GO Fest format, but with a bit more going on. Each day is split into hourly habitat rotations, featuring different Pokémon types like Fire, Electric, Dragon, Psychic, and more. Over the full weekend, you’ll get access to all 18 Pokémon types.
Also, as mentioned earlier, Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Global is completely free. Anyone who logs in during the event weekend will get access to the Special Research, including Zeraora, event bonuses, and increased Shiny chances at no cost.
There are also some cosmetic additions. You’ll find Pikachu wearing Team Instinct, Mystic, and Valor hats, along with starter Pokémon like Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle wearing Pikachu visors, all with chances to appear as Shiny.
Incense encounters will include Pokémon like Unown, Tropius, and Bouffalant, while Field Research and Timed Research will rotate based on the active habitat. There’s also a branching research path where you can choose between focusing on Mega Mewtwo X or Y.
As for bonuses, we can expect increased Shiny rates, longer Lure Modules, extra Raid Passes, more Special Trades, reduced Stardust costs, and a bunch of global challenges that could unlock additional rewards.
