Pokemon GO New Year’s 2023 event will feature a new Pokémon, in-game bonuses, and more

A new year brings new adventures!

The Pokemon GO New Year’s 2023 event will run from Saturday, December 31, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. local time, according to information released by Niantic. Trainers can benefit from the features and perks in-game.

Pokemon GO New Year’s 2023 event: Pokemon debuts and items

New costumed Pokémon will appear during this event. If trainers are lucky, they may encounter a Shiny one.

Starting with this event, trainers will also be able to evolve Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit into Noctowl wearing a New Year’s outfit. During this event, festive fireworks will light up the skies.

The following avatar item and pose will be available to purchase in the in-game shop during this event and will continue to be available after the event ends:

  • Pikachu Party Hat
  • Party Popper Pose

Trainers will be able to get event-themed stickers by spinning PokéStops, opening Gifts, and purchasing them from the in-game shop.

Pokemon GO New Year’s 2023 event: Wild Encounters

The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild:

  • Pikachu wearing a party top hat
  • Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit
  • Wurmple wearing a party hat

Eggs

Lucky trainers may encounter a Shiny one. The following Pokémon will hatch from 7 km Eggs:

New Year’s–themed Field Research tasks will be available. Complete the research tasks to earn Stardust.

Raids

The following Pokémon will be appearing in raids:

  • One-Star Raids
    • Bulbasaur wearing a party hat
    • Charmander wearing a party hat
    • Squirtle wearing a party hat
    • Pikachu wearing a party top hat
    • Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit
  • Three-Star Raids
    • Raticate wearing a party hat
    • Nidorino wearing a party hat
    • Gengar wearing a party hat
    • Wobbuffet wearing a party hat
  • Five-Star Raids
    • Reshiram
  • Mega Raids
    • Mega Steelix

Reshiram encountered in raids will also know Fusion Flare.

  • Trainer Battles: 90 power
  • Gyms and raids: 140 power

A New Year’s–themed Collection Challenge is also coming. Complete the New Year’s–themed Collection Challenge to receive Stardust. The following event bonuses will be available:

  • 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed in an Incubator during the event period.
  • 1/4 Hatch Distance for the first three Eggs hatched during the event using the Pokémon GO Egg hatching widget.

The Pokémon GO Egg hatching widget is now available on iOS and Android devices.
