Since 1996, Pocket Monster or Pokemon franchise has taken a significant place in our hearts with its anime, role-playing video game, trading card game, and even augmented reality mobile game. Their Pokémon Go was a huge success. Now, The Pokemon Company has announced Pokemon Unite, a 5 v 5 Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game made in partnership with Tencent’s Timi Studios, the team behind PUBG Mobile.
MOBA is a real-time, strategy game in which player control a character and completing objectives. The objective of this game is to collect points higher than your enemies in a designated time. It’s a battle of two teams where each team compromises of 5 members battling on a multilane symmetric map after picking your choice of character at the start of the game.
The expectation is high since Tencent is already a MOBA specialist, they are the owners of Riot Games who made League of Legends. Experts think that The Pokemon Company was expected to come up with a MOBA, as it was a natural fit for the game’s dynamics.

From the trailer, some fan-favourite Pokemons were shown to perform skills in order to gain an advantage over the opponent and lead their way to victory. Following Pokemons were revealed in the gameplay trailer. We hope that many more Pokemons are added in the future.
New mechanics for a MOBA?
Since Pokemon are known for their evolution stages, the mechanics of evolution in the game is anticipated since there’s footage of Charmeleon evolving into Charizard is shown. This mechanics is new in MOBA, and we are excited to see how their skills or abilities will change, or just enhanced like existing MOBAs. The game is highly anticipated since Pokemon Company is working with well known, successful MOBA developers.
When will Pokemon Unite release globally?
The game is still in development and the release date of the game is still not announced. However, it’s written in the trailer that the game will be free-to-start for the Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms like Android and iOS. Mobile users are able to team up with their friends using the Nintendo Switch console. If any further update regarding the official release date is received, we’ll surely let you know.
