Before jumping into the moves part, one must know that Tyranitar would be having 3 evolutionary stages in the game, known as Pupitar, Larvitar, and finally, Tyranitar. There is a reason why players can claim people should be aware of this fact though. Following are the moves of Tyranitar, as per the leaks.

Basic Attack

The skill becomes a boosted attack at every third hit, dealing increased damage. The Unite move changes the mechanics of the Basic attack, which are discussed below.

Passive

The passive ability of Tyranitar is a bit interesting. The three different evolutionary stages of Tyranitar, which has three different passive abilities.

  • Guts (Pupitar): When the Pokémon receives a certain amount of damage, its attack increases for a short time. This ability goes on a cooldown, after getting triggered.
  • Shed Skin (Larvitar): When the Pokémon receives a certain amount of damage, all of its status conditions are nullified and it is granted a shield. This ability goes on a cooldown, after getting triggered.
  • Sand Stream (Tyranitar): The skill summons a sandstorm around Tyranitar, when it uses a move. This sandstorm increases Pokemon’s Def. and Sp. Def. and also deals damage to the opposition.

Ability 1- Bite (Melee)

  • CD – 5s

This dark-type move deals damage to the designated opposition. Furthermore, this move can also stun an opposition, if it has HP below a set amount. Also, it may be stunned, if Bite deals sufficient damage to the opponent at once.

Ability 1 Choices at Level 5

At Level 5, Bite can be upgraded to either of these 2 moves:

Dark PulseStone Edge
A dark-type move releases a dark mist towards the opponent in a horizontal sweeping motion. If the move hits an enemy with low damage, it stuns the same.

Repetitive hits on the same opponent with this move increase the damage dealt. This move can form a combo with Ability 2 (Ancient Power), where the player can ignore the defense and shield, if the opposition for a longer period of time, due to increased Piercing strength.
The Rock-type move deals damage to the opposition, in the AoE. This move deals more damage the closer the enemy is to Tyranitar. This move can be used 3 times in succession within a stipulated time, with the AoE widening itself each time it is used.
Upgrade: Reduces this move’s cooldown.
Type: Area
Cooldown: 5s
Upgrade: Increases damage dealt.
Type: Area
Cooldown: 9.5s

Ability 2 – Rock Polish (Dash)

  • CD – 8s

This Rock-type move makes the player dash to any direction of choice, while also dealing damage to any Pokémon it hits on the way. In case it hits any enemy, the attack stat of the player increases for a short time.

Ability Choices at Level 9

At level 9, when the Pokémon is fully evolved, Rock Polish can be upgraded into the following moves:

Ancient PowerSand Tomb
A Rock-type move charges power before releasing a shock wave. The wave deals damage to the opponents and leaves them stunned. While charging, the user’s movement speed increases, and it gets a shield and becomes immune to hindrances.

If the wave hits an enemy, the user’s piercing strength increases and it may ignore the defense and shields of enemies to deal damage. If the move strikes an opposition, another wave is released, which decreases the opponent’s movement speed and deals damage.

Upon hitting, this 2nd shock wave grants another shield to the user. The strength of the shield is proportional to the number of opponents the 2nd wave hit at a time, with a maximum of 3.
This Ground-type move has the user move towards a designated direction in a single bound, dealing damage to enemies it hits while leaping and leaving them stunned. Upon landing, a cloud of dust surrounds the user, and enemies within the AoE suffer damage and loss of movement speed if hit with the dust.

Furthermore, if this move is used again while the cloud is still there, it pulls the enemies closer to the user. Lastly, during this whole move, the player takes decreased damage and ignores the defense and shield effects of the opponent Pokemon.
Upgrade: Strengthens the effects of the shield this move provides.
Type: Buff
CD: 7.5 s
Upgrade: Increases the length of time the cloud of dust remains at the point of impact.
Type: Hindrance
CD: 12 s

Unite Move – Tyrannical Rampage (Buff)

This move has the use burst out in anger and go on a rampage. The move increases the user’s movement speed for a short time, but if it is hit with a hindrance move then, its speed becomes normal, faster than usual. During the rampage, the basic attack style changes, and deals excess amounts of damage with each basic attack(stomps). Lastly, if the enemy has HP below a certain level, and it gets hit with such a basic attack, it immediately gets knocked out.

Final Thoughts

From the looks of it, Tyranitar does look like a powerful choice to have. Though it lacks movement speed but has excess level Attack and Endurance, something an all-rounder should actually have. Now, we too wait along with everyone for its arrival in the actual game, so that we may provide a guide on it for your convenience to the earliest.
