PUBG Mobile India launch set to have a further delay

The wait goes on...

Here is a sad sad news for all the PUBG Mobile fans in India, who are eagerly waiting for the launch of the Indian version of the popular game. The game, which was previously speculated to launch around November this year. might have a further delay. According to Zee News, India’s top child rights body NCPCR has said it will be inappropriate to relaunch PUBG in the country until the government frames new laws to regulate such online games in the country.  Previously, PUBG Mobile was banned in India along with other 117 Chinese apps in September this year. The government had said these apps “are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order”.

Reason behind further delay in PUBG Mobile India launch

Sources believe that it will be very tough for PUBG Corporation to launch the Battle Royale game in India any time before February 2021. It is learnt that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chairperson Priyank Kanoongostrongly recommended” against the relaunch of the mobile app in India until legislations are in place for online games. Kanoongo told PTI, “It was an internal meeting and prima facie, the NCPCR is not in favour of recommending such games in the country.”

PUBG Mobile India launch delay

If reports are to be believed, the government is not convinced with the launch of the app despite several changes from the PUBG Corporation. As per a source, the government is yet to respond to a request for a meeting. The PUBG Corporation are ready to comply with all the norms set by the Government of India but nothing has been heard back from the MEITY office yet.

Previously PUBG Corporation released a press statement on Nov 12 announcing that they are planning to launch the game very soon in India. It also stated that PUBG Corporation would set up a subsidiary in India and the company would invest $100 million in the country. Following this, they even launched teasers of the game which featured prominent faces of the Indian PUBG Mobile community – Jonathan, Dynamo, Kronten. Sadly, we need to wait for the release of the game even further now. We’ll keep you updated as and when anything gets confirmed.
