SMG crowned as the champions of Peacekeeper Elite League PEL Summer Split 2022

End to a thrilling event!

The Peacekeeper Elite League, also known as PEL Grand Finals of the 2022 summer split, concluded today, yielding Still Moving Under Gunfire, popularly known as SMG as its newest champions. This is the first major title in the team’s history which is also one of the founding teams of PEL.

PEL Summer Split 2022: Champions SMG and its path to success

The title battle of the summer split PEL Grand Finals was no doubt exhilarating, with different teams shining every day and the championship on the ropes till the last match of the tournament. On the first day, Nova put up what was an extremely scary show of gunpower over the other teams and shot themselves into the lead which they comfortably maintained till today, that is, the last day.

The team seemed unbeatable as they went on to flatten every team in their path and looked all set to win yet another title. But despite their consistent performance, over the course of the next three days, there were three more teams who rose to the occasion.

On the second day, the lineup of esports giants LGD smashed their way through the leaderboard and grabbed second place in the standings. On the third day, TJB came out of nowhere and took three wins out of the possible five after performing abysmally in the league stages of the tournament.

But they seemed much more in sync in the Grand Finals and it was almost as if they were back to their glory days from last year after reuniting with their star player only. But the tables turned on the last day when SMG beat TJB, LGD, and Nova to the championship owing to an exceptional display of grit and determination of the team till the last match, earning them their first ever major trophy in the game.

Top teams received a fair share of the prize pool

The entire tournament including the league stages featured a staggering prize pool of $4,000,000 with the winners of the Finals having the highest distribution. The winners SMG bagged $1,331,451 while runners-up and third placed Nova Esports and LGD Gaming respectively earned $628,292 and $537,278.

The most coveted individual title, the one of the MVP, went to TT Ajie, from TT also known as Thundertalk Gaming. An exceptional fragger well known for his rapid gameplay and making the most out of clutch moments held his team together and guided them throughout the Finals.

Champions of the tournament qualify for PMGC S2 2022

Besides the champions of the tournament SMG, who will play directly in the Grand Finals of PMGC S2 2022, Nova Esports and LGD Gaming qualified for the league stages of the tournament. Nova Esports, undoubtedly the greatest team in PUBG Mobile and the strongest, consisting of the two greatest players of the game, Paraboy and Order along with the most successful IGL, Jimmy will be back to defend their world champion title which they’ve held for the last two years in a row.

Meanwhile, LGD, propelled by their power duo of ChengC and Suki, will have the biggest test of their career yet in PMGC where they are going in with high expectations. The last slot for the Chinese teams will be filled via a qualification tournament held later on.

One of the more unpredictable PEL versions featured many moments of comeback and setbacks. Favourites WBG kept a very inconsistent record throughout the season and eventually failed to make it into the finals. Suk, the decorated IGL, failed to qualify for the Finals while another title challenger RSG was stopped in their tracks. One. Thus it was a fairly enjoyable season, which although wasn’t as intense as some earlier versions, was executed well and provided ample entertainment.
