In a rather unfortunate announcement, Studio Onoma, which was previously known as Square Enix Montreal before their acquisition by Embracer group in May of this year for $300 Million, is now set to shut down four major titles in their portfolio, one of them being Hitman Sniper: The Shadows, a move which unfortunately comes barely a couple of months after its release.
Players are advised to use all in-game purchases before the shutdown
Not too long after the acquisition, it was also announced that Embracer group was shutting down Studio Onoma and now, their games are set to go down too as internal movements occur. The four unlucky titles are Arena Battle Champions, and Hitman Sniper: The Shadows, Deus Ex Go, Space Invaders: Hidden Heroes. There’s nothing else on Square Enix Montreal’s other games right now.
One of the biggest and most talked about titles here is, of course, Hitman Sniper: The Shadows, the successor to the original Hitman Sniper game which was released earlier this year and will not even last a year now. The official tweet states the games will be taken off the Play Store and the App Store on December 1st and then, players will still be able to access them for more than a month till January 4th, when they will become completely inaccessible.
There are no refunds either nor is there any specific reason given, although a very probably speculative idea is that it might be due to the games and Square Enix Montreal’s work in general not being up to the mark or popular enough. All that being said, if you are playing any of those titles, it’s recommended to get as much out of them as possible and make use of all in-game purchases before the coffins are shut.
