Clash of Clans creator Supercell will give special attention to ‘individualistic’ ideas to create new IPs

The 'strategy' title maker is changing its strategy!

Finnish game developer Supercell is arguably one of the most familiar and famous names in the mobile games industry. Focusing on strategy or casual titles mostly, which the company is doing now, may fall hard on the company as it will put a negative mark on its forehead. But finally, Supercell is going to prevent that from happening as it, sort of, promised to give special attention to “individualistic” ideas to create new IPs.

Titles like Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, Clash Royale, and Brawl Stars are substantially accepted all over the world and still provide the same fun and enjoyment to the players. The new titles, probably, won’t carry the “strategy” or “casual” genre tags as they’ll be unlike the already existing Supercell titles.

Supercell is interested in individualistic ideas for new IPs

Ryan Wener, General Manager of North America Game Studio at Supercell, answered some of the frequently asked questions based on the company’s discussion on its plans. “We want to make great games that as many people as possible play for years and that are remembered forever,” said Ryan. And so, the company is looking to form independent game teams of 3-6 “co-founders” to generate ideas. “Supercell doesn’t greenlight ideas or projects but to assemble great core teams,” he added.

However, the company welcomes people bringing their ideas, concepts, and vision. And, Supercell isn’t going to start from a specific genre of a gameplay mechanic. It might bring games in the future that players might not expect. So, it won’t be a surprise to watch Supercell releasing open-world, RPG, or even FPS games. Besides, to justify “individualistic”, the company may acquire indie studios or hire small but promising minds as it looks now.

Final Thoughts

Supercell’s announcement to open a new gaming studio in North America was said to keep the focus on developing more cross-platform games. But the company’s urgency to set up a studio in any flexible location in the US and also to hire a core team indicates how much desperate it is to create new games even if they come from individual minds. We’ll have to wait and see what Supercell will offer in the future.
